Oscar Garcia claims: Before I was appointed coach of Maccabi Tel Aviv, I almost caused a quarrel with the Cruyff family.
In a column published last night (Tuesday) in Spain, the Spaniard returned to the period before his appointment as coach of the Yellows in 2012, and said: "That summer I was at the center of a family 'quarrel' between the creeps. "Johan, who was appointed sports director of Chibas in Mexico, wanted to appoint me as coach. I was split between the two, and I had a hard time choosing because I was very close to both of them."
Garcia says that "in the end, Jordi managed to convince his father that it would be better for me to start my coaching career in a senior team at Maccabi Tel Aviv. I am glad that this is what happened, because I had one of the best years in Israel, in a city and club that I learned to love. It was not easy. I needed a period of acclimatization, because coaching an adult player is different from coaching players aged 17-18. You have to change the way he talks to them. Luckily, I found very open players at Maccabi Tel Aviv, who wanted to learn, change and improve. "They turned to a completely different style than usual. And it worked, because the results were phenomenal."

One of the best decisions of his life.

Garcia returned for a second term at Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2014 after an unsuccessful attempt at Brighton, in a decision that "stemmed from personal, not professional motives."
"I felt I had a debt to the club. When Brighton submitted an offer to me, Maccabi Tel Aviv understood me and received my departure in an impressive way."
But the Spaniard's second term in Kiryat Shalom was very short, when the coach left Israel due to the security situation and Operation Eitan.
"The situation was very complicated, because of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. I was already in unpleasant situations during my first term in Israel, but this time the difficult security situation lasted a long time, and in moments like this you do not only think about football. My family cared deeply for me. "I left Israel for the second time with a lot of grief and a lot of pain."
As you may recall, the one who took the reins from Oscar Garcia was Paco Eastern, who swept the Yellows into trouble with winning the championship, the state cup and the toto cup.
Garcia, on the other hand, continued briefly at Watford and then coached Red Bull Salzburg, Saint-Etienne, Olympiacos and Salta Vigo, from whom he was sacked in November 2020.
