Buy right: feet are not forgiving of missteps

Ottenhofen – Two weeks ago I wrote here about the perfect running clothes, today our focus is on the perfect running shoe.

This is much more complicated, however, because our feet are - I speak from experience - rather squeamish contemporaries and only forgive mistakes when choosing shoes after a long time, which we then sit off the tracks without walking, hobbling and usually in a bad mood.

One pair is not enough

If we run more than twice a week, I always recommend having two pairs of running shoes so that we can change running shoes with each run.

If we run more than four times a week, I even recommend three pairs of running shoes, which we simply change at regular intervals.

Incorrect strain only becomes noticeable after a while - and to be honest, very few of us have the “perfect” running style that doesn't have to be compensated for by a good running shoe.

In general, the following rule of thumb applies: Just as we vary our route length and pace in order to get faster, we should also change shoes in order to avoid permanent incorrect stress and associated injuries.

Metaphorically speaking, a good running shoe for the feet is like dental prophylaxis - a pure protective and precautionary measure to avoid collateral damage later.

Similar to a perfume, the first running shoe does not buy particularly well on the Internet, because we cannot try it on, we cannot test it, and we also have no expert advice on our side.

Personally, I have had good experience in special “running shops” that first put you on the treadmill, then deal extensively with areas where things may not “run” - one kinks inwards, the other outwards, one opens the forefoot, the other is a metatarsal runner and so on - to then fish out the perfect running shoe from an epic range of running shoe models.

Trial run is important

Then the shoe is first run extensively - outdoors of course - and only then does the shoe feel good, yes, then it is bought.

Of course, it is only after the first one, two or even seven running units that it becomes clear whether the shoe really fits perfectly.

But I've just had far better experiences with it than with internet purchases.

And once we have discovered the perfect running shoe for ourselves, it is no problem to reorder the shoe over and over again if there is not enough time.

If you have the time, you can of course support the local sports shops and buy them there.

Light shoe for short distances

In general, there is so much to say: heavier runners also need heavier running shoes - simply because they cushion the weight better and provide better foot support.

Therefore, women's running shoes always have less weight than the respective men's model.

The shorter the running distance, the lighter the shoe: If we run a short unit with a few pace peaks, a light shoe without a lot of frills is recommended.

If we go out for a long run, maybe even for more than an hour, we recommend a somewhat heavier shoe that offers hold and supports so that we can alleviate any improper stress over a longer period of time and not after 40 minutes because of “walking” -Weh "have to go home.

Prices between 50 and 180 euros

In terms of price, I find it difficult to decide, but I would say on my own instinct: A good running shoe can cost anything between 50 and 180 euros.

Except for pain in my feet.

I wish you the perfect running shoe!

Have fun!
