Spaniard Rafael Nadal qualified for the third round of the Australian Open tennis tournament by defeating American Michael Mamou by 1.6, 4.6 and 2.6.
The second seed did not play for Spain in the ATP Cup for teams last week due to a back problem, while he said after winning the first round in Melbourne that he was still affected by the injury.
Nadal, who won the title in Melbourne Park in 2009, shares the record with Roger Federer for 20 Grand Slam titles and will play in the next match with Briton Cameron Noori or Russian qualifying rookie Roman Saviolin.
