Alexander Auhagen has been looking after the TSV St. Wolfgang team for four and a half years.

Now the contract with the coach is not being extended.

St. Wolfgang - Alexander Auhagen brought the game culture back to St. Wolfgang.

Bernhard Deuschl, head of football at TSV, also sees it this way: "The team plays forward, plays dominantly, lets the ball run and creates a lot of chances." Nevertheless, the department management has decided to start with the 2021/22 season new trainer to continue working.

The successor has not yet been determined.

Deuschl: New impulse should help the team

Auhagen has been a coach at TSV for four years, "and we have always been satisfied with Alex's work," emphasizes Deuschl.

Now, however, a change in the coaching position should give the young team a new impetus and take the next sporting step.

“We are currently planning for the coming season, and there are some challenges ahead of us,” explains Deuschl.

In 2020, a number of A-youth players switched to the men.

Due to the age reduction decided by the BFV group (we reported), two more cohorts will join in the summer, of which Deuschl expects a lot: “Stephan Rottenwaller is doing a great job as a trainer for the A-youth.

There is great potential here. "

A new man will then take care of these talents and the otherwise very young team (Deuschl: “We will have a very broad squad”).

Corresponding discussions are already underway, says Deuschl.

Player-coach or coach?

“We're completely open about that.

Above all, it has to fit the character. "

Free fall from Kreisliga in A-Class

Just like with Auhagen, who took over the coaching post in the summer of 2017.

In fact, “in a very difficult phase from a sporting point of view”, as Deuschl himself describes it.

"With the relegation from the district league, the squad had changed a lot, and the first thing to do was to get back on track and form a new team." The free fall into the A class - 13 points behind the relegation place - could not prevent Auhagen either.

Too many experienced regulars had stopped or left the club.

But Auhagen continued to work calmly.

"The development that the team has made since taking over has been very positive and remarkable," praised Deuschl.

"We're playing very good football again, and you can see from the way we play that Alex was able to put his stamp on the team." Deuschl is certain: "The team will continue to benefit from his work in the years to come."

Ascent has not yet been written off

Whether that will be in the district class this year remains to be seen.

Currently, TSV is three points less behind TSV Isen, tied with DJK Ottenhofen, in second place.

Deuschl has by no means written off the rise, especially since the TSV can also keep up with the best.

"Our problem is not the unfortunate 1: 2 against Isen (the only defeat so far, the editor), but our poor exploitation of chances against teams like Forstern 2 and Steinkirchen 2. We only played a draw."

The rise, according to Deuschl, would be the perfect reward for Auhagen's work.

Could the coming months be difficult for the outgoing coach?

Deuschl: “Definitely not.

Alex is a top man in character.

He and the team can do it. "

Auhagen: "I don't want this to come across as a farewell interview"

Auhagen is also convinced of this, and immediately makes it clear to the local newspaper: "I don't want this to come across as a farewell interview." After all, he still has something to do.

Until the last moment he will give everything to make the promotion to the district class a success.

"Then we would also have a presentable success," knows the sports teacher.

There have been enough highlights in recent years.

“But these are not individual results.

That's too small a step for me. "Auhagen mentions" the way in which the team accepts and implements things.

In terms of play, we have developed so far that we can keep up with any team at district level ”.

His team has proven this several times in friendly matches against district league clubs.

Even during Corona times, around 20 players participated in training.

"And the fact that in the entire four years no player has left the club despite some offers from higher leagues says: The training must have been right, but also the team spirit and camaraderie."

Auhagen: The team is behind me

Could the players have a motivation problem at the end of the season because it is now clear that the coach will be gone after the season?

“In no way”, replies Auhagen, “because I know that the team is one hundred percent behind me and will do everything in its power to make it up”.

And then the district class doesn't have to end.

"Quality, tactical understanding, team structure - if you add experience, then the team clearly has the potential for the district league."

Auhagen would have liked to continue at TSV St. Wolfgang.

“But I don't go with a resentment.

Personally, I think that the development of a young team does not always end after three years.

The association has a different way of thinking. "Of course, he respects that, and discussing the decision in principle is" a waste of energy, because the association has just made that decision ".

Another club, on the other hand, opted for the Upper Palatinate and secured Auhagen's services for the coming season.

He did not want to reveal the name: "That is the responsibility of the club management."

But it is an association outside the Erding district.
