A goal by Benjamin Pavard was enough: FC Bayern narrowly won the final of the Club World Cup. The Mexican opponent Tigres was not strong enough on the offensive.

FC Bayern Munich won the sixth title of the 2019/2020 season with a little delay.

In the final of the Club World Cup in Qatar, the Bundesliga team won 1-0 (0-0) against the Mexican team Tigres UANL.

Only FC Barcelona had won six titles in one season in 2009.

Nevertheless, there is a shadow on this World Cup victory.

In times of the corona pandemic, trips abroad to risk areas are worth discussing, and the people of Munich are criticized for their connection to the host emirate.

Right-back Benjamin Pavard scored the decisive goal with a shot (59th minute).

Robert Lewandowski had previously failed with a header at the keeper Nahuel Guzman, who was rushing out of his goal - and should have been offside.

But the video assistant intervened and so the goal counted.

In the first half there was already first video evidence - the Bayern leadership was still refused.

Joshua Kimmich had shot flat into the left corner from 20 meters from the right side (18th).

Lewandowski did not touch the ball while standing offside, but by evading near the ball, a passive position turned into an active position.

This is how the video assistant saw it, sent referee Esteban Ostojich (Uruguay) to the monitor on the sideline and Ostojich withdrew the goal.

The Munich team felt the lack of regular players Leon Goretzka, Thomas Müller and Jérôme Boateng.

Goretzka did not travel to Qatar because of a corona infection.

Boateng had left the team prematurely for personal reasons and so coach Hansi Flick was forced to reorganize his defense.

David Alaba moved up into the defensive midfield as Goretzka substitute, but Lucas Hernández started at the side of Niklas Süle in central defense.

Müller dropped out at short notice due to a positive Corona test result, the offensive triple chain was therefore called Coman-Gnabry-Sané.

Leroy Sané had the second big chance of the first round, his direct shot from the right edge of the box hit the crossbar (34th).

At Tigres, the game was aimed at striker André-Pierre Gignac.

The Frenchman, who was a national player until 2016 and has played in the Mexican league since 2015, scored his team with three goals in the final.

However, the brawny striker was more noticeable with his aggressiveness in a duel than with a goal risk.

Gignac often dropped and was missing as a reference point at the top.

Bayern were the determining team for the entire season.

Tigres was defensively disciplined and allowed relatively few chances to score - up to Pavard's goal.

After that, the Mexicans were no longer able to switch to attack.

Manuel Neuer didn't have to parry a shot on goal in the second half.

Bayern managed the result and celebrated in front of 12,000 spectators in the Education City Stadium.

The Al Ahly SC from Cairo had previously secured third place at the Club World Cup.

In the "small final", the nine-time African Champions League winner defeated Brazilian representative Palmeiras Sao Paulo after 90 goalless minutes 3-2 on penalties in the Education City Stadium.

In the semifinals, the Egyptians lost 2-0 to Bayern.
