What a comeback!

Maccabi Tel Aviv returned last night (Thursday) to the state cup final for the first time in three years, after an 85:87 victory over Hapoel Holon in overtime at the end of a dramatic victory.

The Yellows will meet Maccabi Rishon Lezion in the final game, for the second time in history, when the final date will be set in the coming weeks.

After the first half of ups and downs, Maccabi went down by half a point, but then Hapoel Holon opened the scoring and gained a 15 point lead. The difference only increased, and 7 minutes to go Holon led 50:67, in what seemed like the end of the story.

But at this point the Yellows started an amazing comeback, and managed to force extra time with a basket from Scotty Wilbkin who also missed an opportunity to give his team the win at the end of 40 minutes.

In overtime, against the exhausted and missing Holon, Maccabi was in control, which almost managed to drop the game, but finally returned to the final.

Six players scored in double digits for the Yellows but the big hero was Oz Blazer who finished with 19 points, including some important baskets in the incredible run in the final quarter.

Scotty Wilbkin added 15 points and Yuval Sussman in a good game in the last part finished with 13 points of his own.

"That's why we brought Oz," they told Maccabi, "he is a man, he is experienced, he is a winner. He is everything we want from a player in his role. If we win the trophy, this trophy is registered in his name."

Blazer himself said of the game: "On the outside we may have looked broken, but no matter what the difference we keep trying, we lowered the pressure level, played our basketball, went into a frenzy and the baskets went in. We made the turnaround and took the game. I always believe, the goal "I have to take degrees. No matter what, I come to do it. I came here to win degrees, and I will do everything for it."

On his ability Blazer added: "For me I do not have to prove anything to anyone. I know what I am worth and what I can do. I have full faith in myself, the team has faith in me, I do not have to prove anything to anyone. We have a task in the final, "It will not be an easy game, I hope there will be an audience. I only have one goal in front of my eyes."

Yannis Sapropoulos: "We fought heroically in the end, I'm proud"

They already felt the loss was coming, suddenly they remembered that they were Maccabi.

The team breathed a sigh of relief at the end of the game when in many moments they had already seen how this semi-final was about to end with a very disappointing loss.

"There is no one in the club who will say that he did not see the loss close," admitted one of the Maccabi men as he left the hall. "We went to the second half and nothing worked, everything went in the direction of Holon, and we returned from the grave."

Coach Yannis Sapropoulos was very angry at the end of the game about the question of whether he should have dressed other players for this match, but despite this he is expected to make changes ahead of the league game on Sunday against the same Hapoel Holon, a game where TJ Klein is expected to get first minutes.

Yesterday Sapropoulos said: "I am pleased that we did not give up when the game did not go well, we continued to fight, it was very important that in the last 12 minutes we put supreme effort, we changed the momentum, we made them do a lot of ball losses, we had a chance to win in normal time. We fought in the end, it was heroic, and I want to congratulate the players. "
