What would happen if the football season was canceled due to Corona?

VfB Hallbergmoos could be happy, TSV Eching not.

District

- The corona lockdown has been extended - and the amateur footballers are still waiting for a resilient schedule for the restart.

The regional league footballers of VfB Hallbergmoos can wait for things to be quite relaxed: If the worst case should occur, Corona would make it impossible to continue the season and the association would refrain from further extension, the club would win the championship as well as promotion to the Bayernliga beckon.

In view of the current developments in the pandemic and the fears of further waves and virus mutations, there is increasing discussion about whether and how amateur football should continue with the round that started more than a year and a half ago.

Above all, there is a question mark behind the league cup that was introduced especially for this exceptional season.

With the current decisions of politics, however, questions also arise whether the leagues can be brought to an end.

In the worst case scenario, the Bavarian Football Association has laid down a specific procedure in the game rules.

Paragraph 93 "Special regulation in the event of a necessary termination of the game year due to state or municipal disposition or force majeure" provides that the official table would be determined by means of the quotient regulation due to the high number of games already played.

The quotient is calculated from the number of points achieved divided by the number of games completed.

Quotient rule: VfB Hallbergmoos would be national league champions

In the Landesliga Südost, the current runner-up VfB Hallbergmoos would be the first: Currently, Eintracht Karlsfeld and Hallbergmoos each have 52 points, the table leader won the direct comparison.

In the event of an interruption, however, it would come into play that Karlsfeld has already played 28 games, but VfB only 27. This results in a quotient of 1.93 for Hallbergmoos - and 1.86 for Karlsfeld.

With 1.88 the SV Erlbach would be classified in second place.

The Erlbachers are five points behind Hallbergmoos, two matches less.

VfB is aware of this eventuality: "We are waiting eagerly to see what happens," says sporting director Anselm Küchle.

The SE Freising would lag behind the leading group with a ratio of 1.59.

District league: FC Schwaig would be one step ahead

In the District League North, TSV Eching leads the league - and has to hope that the game will continue: With 49 points from 24 matches, Eching is one point ahead of FC Schwaig, who have played two fewer games.

If the season were to be terminated at this point in the table, then FC Schwaig would be ahead with a ratio of 2.18 compared to TSV Eching (2.04).

The current league champions FC Moosinning (1.91) would overtake TSV Rohrbach (1.88) in view of the fact that they have one game less in their books.

According to the termination regulations, TSV Eching would occupy the relegation place two.

What it is worth cannot currently be estimated.

TSV department head Alexander Strecker hopes that the table runners-up will also rise in the event of a season break.

"If not, it would of course be a shame." For him, this is much more than just a mental game: "I do not expect that we will be able to play football in the next few months." Strecker expects an interruption - and asks himself why the association started the league cup in autumn.

"We could have played one or the other league game more," says Strecker.
