On the eve of the season opener, Maccabi Tel Aviv believed they had managed to strengthen their front line.
Al Othello Hunter who extended his contract with friend Ante Žižić, who preferred the Yellows over Real Madrid and was set to become one of the top players on the team;
Quincy Icy was replaced by someone who should have greater potential, in the form of Dragon Bender.
But the Croatian duo are not delivering the goods yet, and basketball fans across Europe are also noticing this.
Last night (Friday) an article was published in Greece reviewing the front lines in the Euroleague and the signings of Euroleague teams at the chin and power forward position this past summer.
Maccabi Tel Aviv received a negative score.
"From last season's dynamic front line, the most important piece in the puzzle remains, Othello Hunter, who proves that his value is still high despite his advanced age. On the other hand, Maccabi Tel Aviv did not add the right players to it," they wrote.
"Ante Žižić's return to Europe was accompanied by a lot of hype, but it turned out that he was not the reinforcement that the Yellows thought he would be. Žižić has offensive abilities, but he is very vulnerable on the defensive side. "Both do not justify Maccabi Tel Aviv's choice of them, until now."
Žižić averages 8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game in the Euroleague, while Bender averages 5.7 points and 3.7 rebounds.
