TO UPDATE

Update, February 13, 9.45 a.m.:

At the World Ski Championships in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Kira Weidle is aiming for the second German medal in her favorite discipline.

Weidle is the only starter of the German Ski Association (DSV) in the women's downhill from 11 a.m., she is hoping for a result that is as good as at the World Cup in Cortina two years ago when she finished fourth.

However, she was already the driver with the highest speed in the Super-G, which should give her courage for the coming race.

In the current season she was fifth twice in the downhill, now she wants to go even higher if possible.

The first German medal went to Romed Baumann, who sensationally won silver in the Super-G on Thursday.

Now Weidle wants to follow suit.

First report from February 12th:

Cortina d'Ampezzo - The World Ski Championships in the Dolomites took some getting used to for the arriving athletes, heavy snowfall and fog caused the start to be postponed.

After the successful Super-G on Thursday, the women's descent will take place on Saturday morning at 11 a.m.

The German ski racer Kira Weidle is in good spirits for the competition given her speed.

Ski World Cup: Weidle faster than the world champion - "The basic speed is there"

Born in Stuttgart, she didn't get past 19th place in the Super-G, but in terms of speed she outshone all the other participants.

As the measurement showed, the DSV athlete was even two kilometers per hour faster than the winner Lara Gut-Behrami from Switzerland.

“I'm in good spirits,” said the only German female speed driver optimistically before the next title fight in her parade discipline.

After the two training rounds on Friday, Weidle should be well prepared for the competition.

“In principle, I know the track well, so that shouldn't be a problem,” said the 24-year-old.

"The basic speed is there," she commented on her speed.

In Garmisch she was “fast down there too, I know where the time is.

We can build on that. ”At the home World Cup, however, it was only enough for places 23 and 24 in the two Super-G races. In the current season, however, she achieved better results in the downhill: in St. Anton she was tenth , in Val d'Isère and Crans-Montana, she finished fifth twice.

Ski World Cup: Weidle wants top ten place - a DSV colleague has already shown it

At the World Cup, a place in the top ten is Weidle's ambitious goal, with her third participation it would be the first time that she would succeed.

Should the Starnberg woman reach her goal, this would be a successful conclusion, as she is leaving on Sunday and thus misses the combination that has been postponed to Monday.

In contrast to the women's Super-G, the German men were able to convince, and an experienced racer in particular caused a stir with his performance.

Now Weidle is also hoping for a good result in her last World Cup appearance.
