The Syrian women's rugby team achieved second place and the silver medal after losing to its Egyptian counterpart by a result of 31-0 in the final match of the first Arab Women's Championship, which was held today at the Arab Academy for Science and Technology stadium in Alexandria.

Our team qualified for the final match after beating Lebanon 7-12 and losing against Egypt by 31-0 and winning the semi-final round against the Emirates 7-5, noting that the tournament system stipulates that the four teams participating in the tournament in the first round play a one-stage league. The first meets the fourth, the second with the third.

In the men's category, our team achieved fourth place after losing to its Emirati counterpart in the match to determine the third and fourth places, noting that the Egyptian team won the title after winning the final over its Lebanese counterpart.

President of the Sports Federation for All, Thana Muhammad, in a statement to SANA, explained that the competition in the tournament is strong, especially in the women's category, and all teams are well-prepared and the tournament is perfectly organized, pointing out that the injuries sustained by some of the national team players in our match against the Emirates affected the team’s performance in the match. The final indicated at the same time that our team surprised everyone by defeating Lebanon and the UAE, but the high technical level of the Egyptian team made it deservedly win the title.

Muhammad indicated that the second place in the first Arab championship is an achievement for Syria, noting the efforts of the technical staff and the players and the support that the national team received from the General Sports Federation, hoping that we will reap other achievements in the upcoming tournaments.

Eight men's teams participated in the Arab Championship: Egypt, the Emirates, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Sudan, Palestine, Libya, and four women's teams: Egypt, the Emirates, Syria and Lebanon.
