Aston Villa's 0-1 win over Arsenal (Sport 1)
Towards the end of its heyday, Arsenal were forced time and time again to sell their stars to top rivals in England, thus moving further and further away from the championship race.
In an interview with Bain Sport last night (Saturday), Arsene Wenger admitted that he was asked to sell his best players to allow the transition from the mythical Highbury Stadium to the Emirates.
Asked if Arsenal would have "disbanded" had he not sold his stars, the Frenchman admitted: "Of course. Every season, we had to repay the stadium's money and repay the mortgage taken. I knew we no longer had the potential to win the championship, but we wanted to reach the top 4. I knew that in all "This season I will have to sell a player, I got this challenge and I think this is the period when I worked most effectively for the club. Today they have already paid for the stadium and the club is earning, I hope in the future they can win championships."
When asked which star he would like to keep, if he could do so, he replied: "Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira have been here 8-9 years and wanted to leave when they were adults, to finish their careers and compete for titles. But Cesc Fabregas, Colo Torre, Robin van Persie "Everyone left at a relatively young age."

Even before Manchester City's game against Tottenham, Wenger also referred to the championship race, from which he claimed, Liverpool came out: "City leads by 10 points with an extra game, it is in record shape and I do not think it is possible to close a gap of 13 points in 14 "Games. I've never seen anything like it."
Despite the loss of the Mercedes to Leicester, Doug Wenger complimented Roberto Firmino, who provided brilliant cooking for Muhammad Salah: "He is a striker who improves the players next to him, like Luis Suarez. There are many players who in situations he gets would kick instead of deliver. "We are ready to destroy the team in the locker room. Firmino constantly wants to work for others and I respect that."
About Jamie Vardy, who scored once again against the champions, the French manager said: "He is always in business. At the time I offered him a lot of money to get him to Arsenal, Leicester just won the championship but the owner did not want to sell him."
