Rafael Nadal, ranked 2nd in the tournament, suffered a back injury before the tournament, but despite that looks good so far and has not dropped a battle yet.
Now the Spaniard will meet Italian Fabio Ponini, ranked 16th in the tournament, for the 17th time between the two.
Ponini has managed to beat Nadal four times over the years, including once two years ago and more on clay.
The winner of this match will face Stefanos Cicifas (5) or Matteo Bertini (9), who will lock the game day on the main court.
In light of Novak Djokovic's medical condition, Danil Medvedev becomes a favorite to win the tournament.
The 24-year-old Russian, who has already reached the final of the United States Championship and lost there to Rafael Nadal at the end of a great game and last year was stopped in the semifinals in New York.
Medvedev got entangled in the third round and was dragged into five sets and now he will try to win more smoothly when he meets 25-year-old American McKenzie McDonald, who is ranked 192 in the world.
If Medvedev wins, he may play in a Russian derby in the quarter-finals against Andrei Rublev (7), if it defeats Caspar Rod (24).

Ranked number one in the world and in the tournament Ashley Barty has easily passed her three games so far as she has not dropped a battle at all.
The Australian will play against the American Shelby Rogers, who is ranked 57th in the world and very impressive in the tournament so far.
This will be the third meeting between the two as Barty has won both meetings so far, including in the Australian Championship preparation tournament, 5: 7, 6: 2, 4:10.
The winner there will play against Alyssa Martens (18) or Carolina Mohova (25).
Alina Svitolina (5) looked very good in the third round and managed to neutralize a not-so-simple mine in the form of Corey.
Now the Ukrainian meets Jessica Pegola (61), who at the age of 26 and after several injuries, is finally starting her career in a positive way.
This will be the second meeting between the two after Svitolina won 4: 6, 3: 6 this year.
The winner will play against Donna and Kitsch (28) or Jennifer Brady (22) in the next round.
