Timo Werner scored a goal.
After exactly 1000 minutes of play or 100 days without a goal in the Premier League, the German international scored the 2-0 for his FC Chelsea against Newcastle United (39th), which was equivalent to the final score.
Previously, he had already initiated the opening goal.
Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow fended off Werner's cross and Olivier Giroud scored 1-0 (31st).
Shortly afterwards he came to the conclusion himself in the penalty area and increased to 2-0 (39th).
It was Werner's first goal in the league since his goal against Sheffield United on November 7, 2021.
The data service opta calculated that the attacker has not used 31 opportunities since then.
The 24-year-old scored again in the FA Cup in January and scored a goal in a 4-0 win against fourth division club Morecambe FC.
Werner was hardly successful under the former coach Frank Lampard, only scoring four goals under him.
Since Thomas Tuchel took over the coaching job at Chelsea, the attacker has always been in the starting line-up in the league, and now he has met the first time under the new coach.
With their fourth success in their fifth league game under Tuchel, Chelsea ousted last year's troubled champions Liverpool from a Champions League position.
West Ham United, who won 3-0 (1-0) against bottom group Sheffield United on Monday, are now ahead of the Reds.
In addition to Werner, his national team colleague Antonio Rüdiger played through at Chelsea, Kai Havertz was missing.
In goal, Kepa Arrizabalaga got a chance for the first time since mid-October.
