Former Australian swimmer Scott Miller, Olympic vice-champion in the 100m butterfly in 1996 at the Atlanta Olympics, was indicted on Tuesday for handling methamphetamine trafficking.

He was arrested eleven years after his conviction in another narcotics case.

Scott Miller, 45, and an accomplice were arrested during police raids in the suburbs of Sydney (Australia).

They are both accused of supplying two million Australian dollars (1.3 million euros) of methamphetamine.

The drugs were hidden in candles.

Police also seized a kilogram of heroin, other drugs, and cash.

A spokesperson introduced Miller as the head of a "criminal network", adding that the investigation was continuing.

Scott Miller is not his first coup.

He had already been sentenced in September 2009 to 100 hours of community service after pleading guilty to the six charges brought against him.

In particular, he had been suspected of having supplied a friend with ecstasy.

"My career ended, I didn't know what to do with my life"

At the bar, he had told, very moved, his descent into hell.

“In 2004 my career ended and I didn't know what to do with my life.

To calm the pain of knowing that I was finished, I started smoking marijuana, partying, and all that became my life, ”he admitted during this first trial.

“I fell into alcohol and drugs that I took for loopholes.

It's a terrible thing, like sticking an adhesive bandage on a gangrenous wound, ”he explained.

Scott Miller was arrested in April 2008 after a police raid on a storage area, still in Sydney, where a stolen tablet press was seized.

At his home, a defense spray, steroids and sleeping pills obtained without a prescription had also been found.

Twenty-five years after his Olympic performances, Scott Miller remains a figure in the swimming world at the end of the last century.

World champion in the short course in the 100m butterfly in 1995 and Olympic runner-up over the same distance in 1996, Miller also won bronze in Atlanta in the 4x100m freestyle relay.

This is not the first time this year that a former Olympic swimmer has been caught in turmoil.

On January 6, American Klete Keller, a two-time 4x200m relay gold medalist in 2004 and 2008, was identified amid pro-Trump protesters who stormed the seat of Congress.

Prosecuted for three counts, the ex-swimmer had found nothing better than to strut… with a jacket of the American Olympic team.
