Triathlete Simon Henseleit is one of the best of his profession in Germany among the juniors.

The man from Steingaden would like to continue on his path.

He works hard for this and also takes care of (shoe) details.

Steingaden / Nuremberg - In general - watch out for prejudice!

- women are more likely to be suspected of being overly enthusiastic about shoes.

But Simon Henseleit is not entirely free from it either.

He proudly presented his newest couple on his “Instagram” account.

However, it must be added that in his case it is not just any leisure accessory, but a work tool.

Henseleit (21) is one of the best young German triathletes - and the neon-green and neon-yellow glowing kicks are part of the latest generation of running shoes.

With them, the man from Steingaden, who belongs to the perspective squad of the German Triathlon Union (includes four women and five men), wants to take another step forward.

The primary goal is to take part in world cup competitions (sprint / Olympic distance) in the elite class.

Above all is the dream of being at the Olympics.

Running is the discipline in which he still “has to work the most”, says the sports soldier from the “Tri-Team Schongau”.

In the water, he can even mix with the best in the front, on the bike, says Henseleit.

Ultimately, however, "the decision about the placements is made while running," says the squad athlete.

And since details are important in high-performance sport, running shoes also play a role.

Henseleit is impressed by the new models, including carbon plates, which he received from a sponsor: "You can tell: They generate propulsion."

Ultimately, however, the athlete himself took care of the performance. As far as the sub-discipline “running” is concerned, Henseleit is currently satisfied.

He was recently able to increase the scope of training - the triathlete covers around 60 kilometers per week.

All in all, he and his colleagues at the federal base in Nuremberg are in a "happy position", as he says.

At least on weekdays there is also the possibility to use the swimming pool.

The ten or so athletes are allowed to train together within their "bladder".

Nonetheless, Henseleit and the others are careful to minimize their contacts.

“We also adhere to the regulations privately,” emphasizes the 21-year-old, who lives in Nuremberg with his girlfriend.

To date, there has been no corona case in the training community.

Training not in Thailand, but in winter regions

Overall, the training is going “pretty well”, reports the man from Steingaden, who is also a hope for the European Games in 2022.

A trip to the training camp in Thailand - like last winter - is of course not possible in Corona times.

Working at home is the name of the game: every day he completes two to three units.

Due to the weather, the programs on the bike mostly took place indoors.

As is now common with top athletes, Henseleit no longer uses a classic “role”, but the “Zwift” platform.

His bike is attached to an interactive device that can be used to simulate inclines.

Henseleit can use an app to put together a workout program and even compete against other top athletes if they are also online.

His units sometimes go to New York or sometimes to "Watopia", as he says with a smile.

What is he currently doing there?

Among other things, 7 x 7 minutes with 360 watts at a low cadence of 60 revolutions per minute.

Or five-minute intervals with 400 watts.

“It's not the most fun units,” says Henseleit.

The whole training is currently designed to "expand physiological parameters".

Among other things, the body should be made to absorb as much oxygen as possible.

Even if it is not yet clear where which competitions can take place this year, “we don't train aimlessly,” says Henseleit.

What is certain is that there will be races.

The “Finals 2021” in Berlin and the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region should be a highlight at the beginning of June.

German championships are held there in various sports (including triathlon, athletics, table tennis, gymnastics).

In his discipline, Henseleit wants to be at the forefront.

After most competitions were canceled due to Corona in 2020, he is still - after his triumph in 2019 - the reigning German junior champion.

At the Junior European Championship in 2019, he won the gold medal in the mixed relay with his sister Franca (18), among others.

In the only Bundesliga race of 2020, Henseleit came third with the “hep Team Neckarsulm”.

Only two athletes were better in his heat.

Last but not least, the aim this year is to collect enough points in European Cup races to be recommended for World Cup appearances.

A great challenge, but one that he is optimistic about.

The current form in training also plays a role: "I can tell that something is moving forward."
