Argentina mourns the loss of one of its great heroes from the 1978 World Cup. Attacker Leopoldo Luque, who contributed four goals to the Albiceleste's title win in his own country, died of a heart attack on Monday at the age of 71.
The former River Plate and Union Santa Fe player was last hospitalized in Mendoza after contracting the coronavirus.
The striker, whose trademark was long hair and a strong mustache, scored 22 goals in 45 international matches.
In retrospect, Luque distanced himself from hosting the World Cup in his own country, as Argentina was still a military dictatorship at the time.
He couldn't be proud of this World Cup, Argentina shouldn't have hosted the World Cup.
