Bundesliga club Schalke 04 parted ways with sporting director Jochen Schneider at the end of the season.
The club announced this on Tuesday afternoon.
The contract with Schneider, which originally ran until the end of the 2021/22 season, will therefore be terminated on June 30, 2021.
Until the introduction of a successor, Schneider will continue the day-to-day business of the licensed player department, the message said.
In addition, the supervisory board has placed the responsibility for the preparation for the 2021/22 season in the hands of the squad planning team consisting of Mike Büskens, Peter Knäbel and Norbert Elgert, whose decisions are to be implemented by Schneider.
Under Schneider, who took over the job in March 2019, Schalke slipped to the bottom of the table in the Bundesliga.
The deficit on the relegation rank is nine points after the 21st matchday.
This season alone, the Gelsenkirchen team has so far employed four coaches.
After David Wagner, Manuel Baum and interim coach Huub Stevens, the Swiss Christian Gross is currently in office.
