Handball: PSG regains its momentum in the Champions League

2021-02-17T10:37:24.998Z

The Handball Champions League had not returned to Paris since the end of 2020. PSG challenges the Belarusians in Brest on Wednesday.

The Coubertin stadium finds this Wednesday (6:45 p.m.) the atmosphere of the Champions League.

The last match in Paris of the queen of competitions dates back to November 26 and the arrival of Porto.

Since then, the Parisians have played in the Final Four (4th) and some of them have gone to Egypt to compete in the World Cup.

Loss in the first leg

PSG challenges Brest but beware, not a Breton team.

This is the Meshkov Brest, a Belarusian formation.

At the end of November, Paris had tried in Brest to unlock its points counter, after the setback a week earlier, against Flensbourg (28-29).

As against the Germans, the game did not go as planned and was played on details (32-31) with a second defeat.

A summary to navigate

It is necessary with this tournament and its matches postponed because of the Covid to get a point again.

The Belarusians, along with Porto, are the only ones in group E to have played all their matches (Barcelona, Veszprém and Celje are in the same case in group B).

With three days to go, Meshkov has five wins, five losses and a draw for 11 points.

Several trainings could pass them by after having updated their calendar.

The Parisians are in this case.

In seven matches, they have won four and lost three times.

But the success in Szeged, 10 days ago (29-32), put them back in the race for the leading peloton.

A game without much stake

This match does not have a major stake since in recent days, the group stage of the Champions League has lost its salt.

Because of the Covid, all the teams involved in the current group stage will most likely play the round of 16.

Initially, the first two teams in each group of eight qualified directly for the quarter-finals and the last two teams eliminated.

The round of 16 of the men's C1 are scheduled for March 31-April 1 (outward) and April 7-8 (return).

The quarter-finals first leg will be played on April 3 and 4 and the return quarter-finals are scheduled for April 10-11.

Final 4 will be played on May 29 and 30 in Cologne (Germany).
