Handball also breaks off the season

2021-02-17T14:58:30.697Z

Yesterday's letter from the Bavarian Handball Association (BHV) to its clubs should hardly have surprised anyone. The BHV lost no time in its letter and made it unmistakably clear with the first sentence: "At the meeting on February 15, the Presidium and the district chairmen agreed by mutual agreement to end the 2020/21 season due to the ongoing corona pandemic."

Yesterday's letter from the Bavarian Handball Association (BHV) to its clubs is unlikely to have really surprised anyone.

The BHV lost no time in its letter and made it unmistakably clear with the first sentence: "In the meeting on February 15, the Presidium and the district chairmen agreed by mutual agreement to end the 2020/21 season due to the ongoing corona pandemic."

County - End of the season.

What had been indicated in the past weeks and months is now a certainty - or a decided deal.

The decision is only valid after the district game management and BHV presidium have formally made the decision.

While the demolition had been expected for a long time at the district level, the decision should have at least given the Bayern and state division clubs a little stab

Until recently, there had been hope of being able to bring the season to a regular end in a special tournament mode (we reported).

Nothing will come of that, the cancellation applies to all divisions from the Bayern League downwards.

And what does the decision of the BHV mean?

The 2020/21 season that has just started is not counted, there are neither promoters nor relegators.

The 2021/22 season should be played in the composition and league division as of September 18, 2020.

Teams that withdrew before this date are considered relegated teams, those that withdrew after September 18 remain in their league.

Financially, the Bavarian handball clubs should not suffer any unnecessary damage from the end of the season.

The BHV therefore promises that game contributions at the association and district level are not due.

Payments already collected will be credited for the coming season, according to the association.

Referee costs will also be reimbursed if games have been played in the season that has started.

The BHV describes the end of the season as having no alternative: "Due to the political guidelines, the uncertainty of a possible resumption of handball and the time-limited opportunity to finish a season fairly, the Bavarian Handball Association is unable to do anything else." Now that is clear prevails, the BHV wants to focus “all activities” on the coming season, including the youth qualification.
