"I have no words to describe what has just happened on the pitch," Stefanos Tsitsipas said today (Wednesday) after recording one of the greatest victories of his career.
The Greek, who is ranked 5th in the Australian Championship, came back from a 2-0 deficit in sets against Rafael Nadal and defeated one of the greatest tennis players in history 6: 3, 6: 2, 6: 7 (4), 4: 6, 5: 7.
Tsitsipas today became the third tennis player to manage to come back from a 2-0 deficit against Rafael Nadal and beat him.
Roger Federer did it somewhere in the 2005 Miami tournament and Fabio Ponini recorded the comeback of his life at the 2015 U.S. Championships.
Nadal had hoped to win Australia after 12 long years and win the 21st Grand Slam title - more than any other men's tennis player in history. In the meantime he remained in a draw with Roger Federer and after the game said: “He played better than me in the crucial moments.
I stayed positive and it was not enough.
Sometimes that's enough, not today. "

"My tennis speaks for itself," Tsitsipas continued, "it's an amazing feeling to be a partner in a fight at this level and give it my all on the court. I will not lie, I started to be stressed during the game. It worked for me, it feels wonderful. "
Tsitsipas will play in the semifinals against Danil Medvedev who has been showing high ability since the tournament opened.
"He's an opponent who's in really good shape," said the Greek. "He has 19 straight wins and everyone knows he's in great shape. He's going to make my life difficult, but every other game I play in this tournament is a blessing."
