Ex-President Dmitri Schljachtin and other top officials of the Russian athletics federation Rusaf have been banned for four years for obstructing an anti-doping test.

A corresponding judgment of the disciplinary commission of the world association World Athletics was published by the independent integrity commission (AIU).

The AIU initiated proceedings against the Rusaf officials because, among other things, they had submitted forged medical documents and false statements in the Danil Lysenko case.

The former high jump world champion could not be reached in unannounced doping tests.

The officials wanted to cover up the rule violation and thus prevent Lysenko from being suspended.

According to the AIU, Schljachtin was found guilty of not cooperating in the investigation, manipulating the anti-doping procedure and failing to report a doping violation, argued the AIU.

Lysenko, a former indoor world champion and 2017 World Cup runner-up, and his coach were also charged in 2019.

The proceedings against them are still ongoing.

The new Rusaf leadership had admitted misconduct in this case last year.

The Russian Athletics Federation has been suspended since 2015 because of the scandal surrounding widespread doping.

It is possible that the world governing body could decide on a resumption of the suspension before the Tokyo Olympics.
