The head coach of the Iranian women's national team in alpine skiing, Samira Zargari, did not fly to the world championship in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.
The reason: her husband apparently forbade her to leave the country.
Several Iranian media confirmed this.
The 37-year-old wished her team every success on her Instagram page.
In Iran, married women cannot apply for a passport without the notarized permission of their husbands.
Even with a passport, the man can either forbid departure or have the passport confiscated.
Initially, no information was given as to why the husband specifically did not allow Zargari to leave the country.
According to the BBC, the newspaper "Shargh" wrote, citing a source in the ski association, that attempts had been made there "until the last moment" to allow the country to leave the country.
But without success.
On Tuesday, the machine took off in Tehran without Zargari.
In recent years, several top Iranian athletes have been banned from leaving the country.
The most prominent so far in 2015 was Niloufar Ardalan, captain of the futsal national team.
Shortly before departure for the Asian Cup, she was informed of her husband's decision on the departure ban at the airport in Tehran - she was not allowed to accompany the team.
Zargari's whereabouts caused violent protests on social media.
Many were ashamed that in the 21st century a man would simply forbid his wife to leave the country.
The judiciary was also criticized for allowing such a ban.
