The biathlon season for women and men: Here you will find all the dates of the 2020/21 World Cup and all information about the broadcast live on free TV and in the live stream.

  • Because of the coronavirus, there will be

    some changes

    at the Biathlon World Cup

    .

  • The number of venues has been significantly reduced and

    hardly any spectators are

    allowed.

  • Here's how to watch the

    men's

    and

    women's

    races

    on

    TV

    and

    live stream

    instead.

Munich - The

2020/21 biathlon season

can start as planned in

Kontiolahti

,

Finland

.

At least as far as the date is concerned: on November 28 and 29, 2020, the athletes met there for the first competitions of the World Cup.

Unlike planned, however,

no spectators are allowed on the route

.

This was decided by the Finnish authorities together with the

International Biathlon Union (IBU)

.

In return, the athletes will stay a little longer this year and next.

Due to the

corona pandemic

, only

seven out of eleven locations are visited

.

This means that several competitions take place per station.

Therefore the athletes will be back in

Kontiolahti

the following week

.

Only in Antholz and at the finals in Oslo there is only one race each.

Biathlon: Numerous athletes tested positive for Corona before the World Cup

Athletes and supervisors should be better sealed off in order to avoid contamination from outside or spread within the entourage.

In addition, special

laboratories are set up

so that everyone

can be

tested every five to six days

.

The worries are justified.

According to the

IBU

, Kontiolahti athletes from six nations tested positive for Covid-19 in the run-up to the race.

The Munich biathlete

Vanessa Hinz describes it

as a "privilege"

that the World Cup can even start under these circumstances

.

Several places have already announced that they will not allow spectators.

Biathlon 2020/21: These are the favorites for men and women

It is difficult to say whether this will also reshuffle the cards on a sporting level.

For men, the end

of superstar Martin Fourcade's career

alone

creates

a new situation.

The Frenchman finished second in the World Cup last year after winning the race in Kontiolahti.

The

final appointment in Oslo

was canceled due to Corona.

Welcome to Kontiolahti!

- IBU World Cup (@IBU_WC) November 26, 2020

The winner of the last World Cup was the Norwegian

Johannes Thingnes Bø

.

In the women's

category

,

Dorothea Wierer

from Italy was ahead of the game, followed by the Norwegian

Tiril Eickhoff

and the German

Denise Herrmann

.

With

Franziska Preuss

in sixth place, another German made it into the

top ten

.

With

Benedikt Doll,

only one German reached the top ten

among

men

.

Doll reached eighth place overall and also won the sprint in Annecy.

However, with

Arnd Peiffer

(11th),

Johannes KĂĽhn

(13th) and

Philipp Horn

(18th), three other German biathletes were among the top 20. Here you can find out how the points are distributed in the biathlon.

The highlight of the 2020/2021 season is the

World Cup in February

.

This will

take place

on the Slovenian plateau

Pokljuka

after the World Cup was withdrawn from the original host Russia due to systematic state doping.

In biathlon, the world championship - unlike ski jumping, for example - is part of the world cup.

Biathlon live on TV: These channels will show the 2020/21 World Cup

In principle, all events are shown on the public TV channels

ARD and ZDF

.

So far, the two channels have only divided the races up to the

World Cup in Oberhof

.

How it will proceed after that will be announced in the next few weeks.

In addition,

Eurosport also has

rights to the Biathlon World Cup.

The events can also be seen there in full - that means you only have to turn on the

television

.

Public broadcasters usually start reporting a

quarter to half an hour beforehand

, with Eurosport you get in a little closer (five minutes before).

So that you don't miss a competition, we have

summarized

all dates

for you.

The various disciplines are also included.

Women and men are listed together; in addition to the

start times

, the table also shows the

broadcasting stations

.

Accompanying

reports are

still running on ZDF during the time of the World Cup

.

Biathlon in live stream?

How to watch the 2020/21 World Cup online

The biathlon competitions are not broadcast by

DAZN

or

Sky

, but they can still be seen online.

Due to the regulation of the

broadcasting fee

, the program of the public

broadcasters

is also

available

on the

Internet

at

any time

.

Biathlon fans without a television therefore only have to

click

on the

ZDF

or

ARD Sportschau

website at the times mentioned above

.

To the TV program of

Euro Sport

online to get to, one needs to Euro Sport Player.

However, there are monthly costs for users.
