2020/21 biathlon season

can start as planned in

Kontiolahti

,

Finland

.

At least as far as the date is concerned: on November 28 and 29, 2020, the athletes met there for the first competitions of the World Cup.

Unlike planned, however,

no spectators are allowed on the route

.

This was decided by the Finnish authorities together with the

International Biathlon Union (IBU)

.

In return, the athletes will stay a little longer this year and next.

Due to the

corona pandemic

, only

seven out of eleven locations are visited

.

This means that several competitions take place per station.

Therefore the athletes will be back in

Kontiolahti

the following week

.

Only in Antholz and at the finals in Oslo there is only one race each.

Athletes and supervisors should be better sealed off in order to avoid contamination from outside or spread within the entourage.
