Tel Aviv Grand Slam Judo started this morning (Thursday) and from the very beginning we received an impressive achievement for the Israeli team. Amit Bobovich (up to 66 kg) ousted the reigning European champion, Orhan Sparov, in his first fight.
The powerful Azeri has previously won two medals at world championships and is considered one of the favorites to win the tournament.
In the same weight category, Baruch Shmailov, ranked 5th in the world, opened his performances against Brazilian Willian Lima and won on the iPhone.
Ayalon Barshetesh was eliminated in his first fight with a loss to a Kazakh opponent.
In the women, Geffen Primo (up to 52 kg) was eliminated in the first round by the British Chelsea Giles who fascinated her. Primo, who is fighting with Gili Cohen for the place in Tokyo, is still leading in the score, but Cohen will be able to overtake her if she finishes in the top five in the championship.
