A dream like the one that Daniel Tennenbaum had last year can happen once in decades.

The goalkeeper broke insane records on a local and international scale with the seventh all-time streak of non-absorption of goals, on the way to the Maccabi Tel Aviv championship, but since then a lot of water has passed in the river.

Tenenbaum, who was recently discharged from the army, will have to provide a big performance tonight against Ukrainian Empire Shakhtar Donetsk - one of the candidates to win the factory - to leave the Yellows with a slim chance of splashing in the first game, and then maybe even fantasize about the Europa League quarterfinals.

This season, Tennenbaum's biggest appearances were actually in the European setting.

In the first game against Salzburg in the Champions League playoffs, the goalkeeper provided a heroic display with a series of saves.

Also in the impressive draw against Villarreal he made a great appearance, but in the Premier League the story is different.

So the questions arise is Tennenbaum a goalkeeper who brings points?

And can Maccabi really trust him between the posts for years to come?

"He does not have PR like the others"

Before we reach any conclusion, the very discussion of the subject reinforces the well-known Cinderella story of Tennenbaum, who started as the fourth goalkeeper for the Yellows and only thanks to an embarrassing series of appearances by Andreas Janiotis, got the precious opportunity last year and has since become one

of the team's most important players.

"Tennenbaum does not have the public relations that other goalkeepers have, but after last season he did not have to prove anything to anyone," says a source at Maccabi Tel Aviv, but not everyone in Kiryat Shalom has an opinion on the matter. "The defense and he was fully absorbed, and now most of the defense is back (with the return of Geralds; SA") and it looks different, "said another source at the club.

Maccabi believes that the reason Tenenbaum suffered a lot at the beginning of the season is Yorgos Donis.

"A coach came who changed the guard, the players did not know what he wanted, the whole defense and even Glazer, who was a player of the season, did not look good and it affected him as well," the team said, adding that at one point Donis also considered replacing Tennenbaum.

Comparisons to anime

And at this point it is worth looking at the statistics.

In the ten games under Patrick Van Leven, the goalkeeper kept a clean sheet in seven games, and conceded only three goals, one of which was an own goal by Shahar Phiben against Maccabi Haifa.

These are figures that are starting to mention the goalkeeper's tremendous season last season, but what was before the last ten games?

Well, in 11 games under Donis, the goalkeeper conceded 15 goals and managed to keep a clean sheet in just four games.

The data speaks for itself.

Maccabi claims that Tennenbaum does not fall "from the anime's foot game", praising his composure, the confidence he gives to the defense, and his one-on-one.

On the other hand, his critics will argue that his weak point is in the height balls.

"Which goalkeeper in the league is better than him? Maybe Josh Cohen," say Maccabi, "the fact that an Israeli Tennenbaum adds a lot of credit to him."

Tennenbaum is aimed at the Israeli national team, and is strong on the lists of national coach Willy Rotensteiner, but only in August, when he turns five years old from the day he became a citizen, will he be able to receive the summons he so long for (according to FIFA rules).

The goalkeeper's claim that he is arousing interest among teams in France and Greece, when it was recently reported that AEK Athens is interested in him, but "Israel Today" has learned that the Yellows have already begun talks to keep him and sign a new contract with the team. Will be the number one goalkeeper of the Yellows and will continue to inaugurate the young talent Daniel Peretz.

To be sure, a good performance tonight against a team like Shakhtar - who beat Real Madrid this season - will only raise his shares.
