It was shortly before 1 p.m. when the Danish handball club Aalborg Håndbold published a Facebook post.

The club logo could be seen and #inteterumuligt was also there, translated: "Nothing is impossible".

Shortly thereafter, a second post followed, a liquidation - and the announcement of a spectacular deal.

After successfully defending his title at the World Cup in Egypt, Denmark's handball star Mikkel Hansen is returning to his home country at club level.

The 33-year-old is moving from Paris to Aalborg in the summer of 2022, as the Danish club announced.

The multiple world handball player, who has played for Paris Saint-Germain since 2012, receives a three-year contract with the Danish champions.

"This is one of the greatest days in the history of Aalborg Håndbold," said club director Jan Larsen.

Hansen was quoted by the club as saying, "I'm really looking forward to returning to Danish handball."

Hansen comes from Helsingør north of Copenhagen, Aalborg is in the western part of Denmark in Jutland, which is considered the core region of Danish handball.

Aalborg Håndbold has won the Danish championship in three of the previous four seasons.

The club is currently in second place in the league this season.

Hansen was the first handball player to earn more than 500,000 euros a year, and his annual salary at PSG is now just under a million euros.

The handball superstar has achieved almost everything in his career - only he has not yet won the Champions League.

Aalborg is one of the most popular clubs in Denmark

How much Hansen will earn in Denmark is not known.

Aalborg is considered a financially strong club and is one of the most popular clubs in handball-crazy Denmark.

With Hansen, the club should also dare to attack in the Champions League.

Although Denmark currently has the best national selection in world handball, no Danish club has yet won the premier class.

At the end of January, Denmark won the World Cup again with a 26:24 (13:13) victory in the Scandinavian final against Sweden and thus successfully defended its title.

Hansen was honored as the best World Cup player and had thrown the most goals (7) for the Danes in the final.
