Alexander Schmid is the best German ski racer in giant slalom.
In 2020, he was twice World Cup third in parallel competition.
Alexander Schmid
was born on June 9, 1994 in Oberstdorf.
He skied for the first time at the age of two and trained for the first time in the ski club in his hometown when he was four.
His
trainer
was his
mother
, who was an
active
ski racer
herself
.
Thanks to initial successes, Schmid was soon accepted into the Ia training group of the
German national
team.
He also joined the
SC Fischen
club
.
His first
FIS race
was the
slalom
in St. Moritz in December 2009, which he finished in 19th place.
In February 2011 Schmid took part in the European Youth Olympic Festival in Liberec, Czech Republic.

finished eighth in
the
giant
slalom
and tenth
place in the
slalom
.
In February 2012 Schmid started for the first time in a race as part of the
European Cup
, namely the
giant slalom
in Oberjoch.
At the
Junior World Championships
in March 2012, he finished fifth in the giant slalom.

German junior champion
in giant slalom

In August 2013, Schmid, who is a
customs officer
by profession, became a member of the customs ski team.

In October 2014 Alexander Schmid took part in his first
World Cup race
in Sölden.
In the spring of 2015, the
ski racer
celebrated some notable successes, namely:
February 9, 2015: First European Cup victory at the
giant slalom
in Bad Hindelang
March 8, 2015: Bronze in the team competition at the Alpine Junior Ski World Championships in Hafjell (together with Lukas Wasmeier, Patrizia Dorsch and Marlene Schmotz)

in giant slalom in Seefeld

In 2015 he was also the
German junior champion
in
giant slalom
for the second time
.
In December 2017, Schmidt scored points in the
World Cup
for the first time
when he finished sixth in the giant slalom in Val-d'Isère.
With that, he qualified for the
2018 Olympic Games
in Pyeongchang.
There he formed
the German team that took part in the
team
competition
with
Fritz Dopfer
,
Lena Dürr

Linus Straßer

Marina Wallner
.
Although Schmid was
eliminated
in the
second round
against Adam Žampa from Slovakia,
Germany

quarter-finals

Ramon Zenhäusern

In February 2019
Alexander Schmid
competed in
giant slalom
at the
Alpine World Ski Championships in Åre
.
There he took eighth place.
He ended the 2018/2019 World Cup season with 70 points, all of which he had collected in the giant slalom.
As a result, he reached 24th place overall in this discipline.
In February 2020 Schmid stood
on the
podium
for the first time after a
World Cup race
.
At the
parallel competition
in Chamonix, he finished third behind
Loïc Meillard
and
Thomas Tumler
.
Thanks to this success, he finished sixth in the
World Cup
in the parallel competition
at the end of the 2019/2020 season

In the overall ranking of the World Cup, Schmid took 44th place with 165 points.
