Controlled at the back, effective at the front: VfL Wolfsburg has been unbeaten in eight Bundesliga games after winning 3-0 (1-0) at Arminia Bielefeld and continues to have good chances of participating in the Champions League.

Renato Steffen scored two goals (29th minute / 47th), Maximilian Arnold one (55th), behind the defensive in the seventh competitive game in a row without conceding a goal.

With the win, Wolfsburg is now third in the Bundesliga for at least one night, on Saturday Eintracht Frankfurt could only overtake VfL with a win against FC Bayern Munich.

Arminia Bielefeld remains on the relegation place as 16th.

Before the game, the teams commemorated the victims on the first anniversary of the racist attack in Hanau.

The captains of the two teams - Fabian Klos and Koen Casteels - showed a sign that read "Never forget!"

Wolfsburg coach Oliver Glasner decided for the same starting line-up for the sixth competitive game in a row.

Not without reason: VfL had previously conceded no goals in six games in a row.

Bielefeld's coach Uwe Neuhaus offered the same starting line-up that last scored 3: 3 against FC Bayern.

Wolfsburg controls the game

Against Wolfsburg, however, Arminia started less furiously than last Monday against Bayern.

VfL tried to control the game and gave the Bielefeld players few counter opportunities.

Goals on goal were rare in the beginning, but Wolfsburg penetrated the penalty area more often.

After almost half an hour, Renato Steffen took advantage of the first big chance.

After a cross pass from Yannick Gerhardt into the center, he pushed in to make it 1-0 (29th).

Practically in return, Michel Vlap came to the compensation opportunity.

After an unsuccessful defense attempt by John Anthony Brooks, Vlap completed free-standing from 15 meters, but the shot went wide (31st).

It should remain the last negligence of the Wolfsburg defensive in the first half.

VfL gave Bielefeld the ball more often, but didn't give them a chance.

Wolfsburg continued to play in a controlled manner and remained consistent in front of goal.

Bielefeld goalkeeper Stefan Ortega could not hold a shot by Wout Weghorst and Renato Steffen used the rebound to 2-0 (47th).

The Arminia hardly found its way into the game.

Arnold took advantage of this and scored the third goal with a shot from about 20 meters (55th).

The 3-0 was the preliminary decision.

Wolfsburg managed the lead, Bielefeld found no more ways to put the guests' defense under serious pressure.

Klos had a good chance with a header, but the ball flew over the bar (77th).
