Ski jumping world champion Markus Eisenbichler and overall world cup leader Halvor Egner Granerud were both disqualified because of their suits at the world cup in Rasnov, Romania.
At first, only the 29-year-old German was taken out of the competition because of a non-compliant suit, announced the FIS World Federation.
Shortly after the end of the jump, which Granerud had actually won, the Norwegian also got hit, whose suit also did not conform to the rules.
So he missed the preliminary decision in the fight for victory in the overall World Cup.
Eisenbichler wanted to forget the suit breakdown immediately.
“I'm concentrating on the World Cup now.
I don't get upset because I'm not that age anymore, «he said after the failed dress rehearsal.
Eisenbichler's suit had been found too big by the controller after the first jump.
With the set of only 92 meters, the Bavarian had already fallen behind.
"I'm not sad now, it just happens," he said.
He had "grabbed the shit a bit".
Eisenbichler's suffering was initially Granerud's Freud, who celebrated his twelfth win of the season and success in the overall World Cup in the run-out - but then he too was disqualified because of his suit.
The victory went to the Japanese Ryoyu Kobayashi ahead of the Polish Kamil Stoch.
Germany's second tour leader, Karl Geiger, took third place and celebrated his return to the podium after difficult and changeable weeks.
The national coach is still satisfied
National coach Stefan Horngacher was satisfied with the performance of his team on ZDF despite Eisenbichler's mishap.
“It's a very good day for us today.
The guys were very dedicated today, ”he said.
The flights are okay, there is still room for improvement with the landing.
In addition to Geiger, Pius Paschke (7th), Constantin Schmid (12th) and Severin Freund (14th) also took World Cup points.
In the weeks after the Four Hills Tournament, Eisenbichler and Geiger had slackened significantly.
Flight world champion Geiger fell into a form low, and the World Cup runner-up Eisenbichler only rarely made it to the top.
The jumping was the last individual competition before the World Championships in Oberstdorf, which starts next Tuesday and lasts until March 7th.
On Saturday (9.45 a.m.) there is still a mixed competition with the women on the program in Romania.
In Seefeld two years ago, Eisenbichler and his colleagues won a total of three gold medals in the individual, team and mixed.
A repeat of this success will be difficult with the tough competition for the strong Granerud this winter.
