LE SCAN SPORT - The meeting between Colorado and Las Vegas, organized outdoors, had to be interrupted due to the too mild temperatures in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Unexpected weather conditions disrupt sport in the United States: after the cold snap in Texas, which led to the postponement of NBA basketball games, it was the too much sun in Lake Tahoe that interrupted the poster in outdoor hockey (NHL) Las Vegas-Colorado, Saturday.

The game counting for the regular season ended at the end of the first period, as the Colorado Avalanche led 1-0 at the expense of the Las Vegas Golden Knights, thanks to a goal from Samuel Girard.

He resumed several hours later, at night, with a victory for Colorado at the key (3-2).

The reason is the bright sun that melted the ice, causing bad conditions and too great a risk of injury.

All this at almost 2,000 meters above sea level, on a specially designed ice rink on the 18th hole of a golf course by the lake, to create a unique atmosphere with mountains in the background.

Without any spectator, however, the Covid-19 pandemic requires.

“We concluded, after consulting with our ice specialists and both teams, that it was neither safe nor appropriate to continue playing this game at this time,” said Gary Bettman, NHL commissioner.

Another meeting is scheduled for Sunday between the Boston Bruins and the Philadelphia Flyers, and its kickoff, initially scheduled for the afternoon, has also been postponed to the evening.

Outdoor games have become a tradition in NHL since 2003. “We have hosted over 30 outdoor games.

This is the most difficult weather condition we've seen and… it's a beautiful day, ”said Bettman.

Far from the Tahoe sun, it is a much more surprising and impressive weather phenomenon observed in Texas, hit hard by an unprecedented wave of polar cold that paralyzed this state for several days, more accustomed to heat waves than to the snow.

For lack of electricity among other things, three NBA matches had to be postponed in recent days: Dallas-Detroit, Houston-Dallas and Houston-Indiana.

In NHL, the Dallas Stars have had to give up receiving four times this week.

Finally, at Pacific Palisades, west of Los Angeles, the organizers of the Genesis Invitational were forced to suspend the PGA Tour golf tournament for four hours on Saturday.

In question?

Gusts of violent wind which are not at all incongruous on the shores of the Pacific.
