FC Bayern Munich is heading for the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

With the 4-1 (3-0) victory in Rome at Lazio, the defending champion has a very good chance of reaching the next round.

Robert Lewandowski (9th minute), Jamal Musiala (24th) and Leroy Sané (42nd) as well as Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi scored for Bayern with an own goal (47th).

Joaquín Correa (49th) scored the only goal for Rome, who lost a game for the first time in the current Champions League season.

In the second leg on March 17 in Munich, Lazio would need at least four goals due to the away goals rule in order to reach the quarter-finals.

Lazio, usually dangerous especially in the switching game, initially left the ball to Bayern and only attacked from the center line.

Munich played their way up to the penalty area again and again, but benefited from a defensive error in the lead.

Mateo Musacchio played a fatal back pass to goalkeeper Pepe Reina, Lewandowski sparked in between, dribbled around Reina and pushed in to make it 1-0 (9th).

Despite the deficit, Rome stuck to their passive tactics and hardly put any pressure on the guests' development game.

They performed much more confidently than in the last 3: 3 against Arminia Bielefeld or the 1: 2 defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt, but they were also lucky.

When Jérôme Boateng brought down opponent Sergej Milinković-Savić in the penalty area, referee Orel Grinfeld did not decide on a penalty (20th).

Musiala Bavaria's youngest goalscorer in the premier class

Bayern remained the more active team and rewarded themselves with the second goal: 17-year-old Jamal Musiala, promoted to the starting eleven by coach Hans-Dieter Flick, hit the bottom left of the goal from 17 meters (24th).

This makes him Bayern's youngest goalscorer in the Champions League.

Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi changed defender Musacchio shortly afterwards and switched the defense (31).

The Romans then had more opportunities, but remained vulnerable at the back.

Kingsley Coman captured the ball at the center line, his shot in the penalty area fended off goalkeeper Reina forward and Leroy Sané took advantage of this for the third Bayern goal (42.).

Immediately after the restart, Sané was also responsible for the 4-0.

The winger passed the ball across the six-yard box and defender Francesco Acerbi scored an own goal (47th).

Otherwise Alphonso could have pushed Davies in.

Immediately after the goal, the Munich were not paying attention, Lazio combined into the penalty area and Correa scored for the Romans (49th).

After that, the Romans were braver than in the first half, but they did not start a race to catch up.

Bayern were less powerful offensively, but remained focused on the defensive and held the lead until the end.
