In addition to giving the victory to Chelsea against Atlético this Tuesday in the round of 16 first leg of the Champions League, Olivier Giroud did so in a spectacular way. A sumptuous gesture which greatly pleased the European newspapers.

"Touch of genius", "on the Moon", "the extraterrestrial", there is no doubt that Olivier Giroud's goal will have made the rounds of the European sports press.

By giving the victory to Chelsea against Atlético Madrid in the round of 16 of the Champions League on Tuesday, with a sublime acrobatic gesture, the Frenchman drew the praise of European dailies.

The most enthusiastic about this sumptuous goal are obviously the English.

"A touch of genius" for the

Daily Mail

, while the

Daily Mirror

leans more for a "touch of magic".

Barney Ronay, of

Guadrian

, begins his report with a modest "is it time, in times like these, to accept that Giroud is simply an exceptional center-forward?".

The Times

says "Giroud made Chelsea rise up."

So much so that the

Sun

says Chelsea must immediately extend the former Montpellier, who is neither more nor less than "the only world-class striker of the Blues".

Is it time, you wonder at moments like these, to accept that Olivier Giroud is simply an outstanding center-forward?

The

Daily Star

claims that "Oli is on the Moon with this incredible gesture".

An interstellar evocation shared on the other side of the Alps, in Italy, where the

Corriere dello Sport

titles “Giroud, the extraterrestrial”, in good French!

Rather good loser, the Spanish press salutes Giroud's “chilena” (“bicycle”).

The gesture of the French international is printed in one of

Marca

.

In the text, the Spanish dailies were not extended enough to qualify Giroud's gesture, preferring to give pride of place to the images of his goal.

The Spanish press reserves its words to describe the performance of Atlético de Madrid.

"A chilly Simeone" writes

El Pais

while

Marca

urges the Colchoneros to "reverse the situation" on the return.
