Jamal Musiala will wear the jersey of the German national soccer team in the future.
The 17-year-old announced this in an interview with the ARD “Sportschau”.
The family of the Stuttgart native, son of a German mother and a Nigerian father, moved to England in 2010.
Musiala received his football training at Southampton FC and Chelsea FC before moving to Munich in 2019.
As a youth player, Musiala had represented the German U16 team twice, but between 2016 and 2020 she also appeared for various English junior teams 23 times.
"I have one heart for Germany and one for England," said Musiala.
"Both hearts will keep beating."
In the end, he chose the feeling that advised him to choose Germany.
"This decision now feels 100 percent right," said Musiala.
Most recently, national coach Joachim Löw had campaigned aggressively for Musiala, and there was a personal meeting in Munich at the end of January.
In addition, the other national players of FC Bayern Munich, such as Serge Gnabry and Joshua Kimmich, had advised Musiala about a future in the DFB team.
The next international matches of the German national team will take place at the end of March, with games against Iceland, Romania and North Macedonia qualifying for the 2022 World Cup.
Musiala made 16 appearances in the current Bundesliga season and scored three goals.
On Tuesday evening, the youngster was in the Bayern starting line-up for the first time in his fourth appearance in the Champions League, and Musiala contributed a goal to the 4-1 win over Lazio Rome.
This makes him the youngest goalscorer for a German club in the premier class.
Musiala, who made his first professional games on the offensive wing positions, was most recently preferred by Bayern coach Hansi Flick in the central offensive midfield.
Musiala, who is known to be skilled on the ball and dribbling, is expected to compete with Leverkusen's top talent Florian Wirtz for a place in the national team.
