The shooter copes well with the requirements.

Wilzhofen - Maximilian Ulbrich would not mind if one or the other regulation from the Corona period continued to exist after the end of the pandemic.

“It could always be like this for me,” is the comment of the sports shooter from Wilzhofen on keeping the distance.

When Ulbrich trains on the Olympic shooting range in Munich-Hochbrück, there is always a free stand to the left and right of him.

“It's really comfortable,” says the 20-year-old.

He finally has enough space to properly spread all of his things.

As a member of the Bayern squad and the sports promotion group of the police, Ulbrich is one of those privileged athletes who are allowed to practice their sport during the pandemic.

“We take special care,” says Ulbrich.

He makes it clear that he and his colleagues adhere to the requirements in a disciplined manner.

They'll take effect when he arrives at the Olympic shooting range.

Mask is already put on in the car

In the car he puts on his FFP2 mask, then it goes into the hall, where a disinfectant dispenser is waiting for him.

The shooters are allowed to change in a specially marked preparation area.

On the way to the stand you have to put the mouth and nose protection back on.

You can only remove the mask once you have taken your position.

The paths in the shooting range can be freely chosen during training.

Certain lanes are only marked out for competitions.

"But you always have to be careful that you keep enough distance from the others," reports Ulbrich.

However, he does not have to disinfect his own rifle, as it is only used by himself.

Maintaining your distance is not a problem in Hochbrück.

There are a total of 100 air rifle stands, half of which can currently be occupied.

“There are enough there,” emphasizes Ulbrich, you don't get in each other's way.

There is also no cramped space in the small bore final hall.

There are only 20 stands there, but half of them are rarely occupied.

Because a corona test is only mandatory before the competitions or the courses, Maximilian Ulbrich has not yet been examined for Covid-19.

Only with the police did he have to undergo a mandatory test like every other candidate before the new training phase - this was negative.

"It's going really well," said the Wilzhofen resident.

He is relieved that the hygiene concept has taken effect so far.

Even if the processes in the Olympic shooting range took some getting used to at the beginning, they had no effect on his performance.

“There is no impairment,” he states.

He regards the measures taken as “necessary and perfectly in order”.

But one question remains: "I don't know what happens in the competition after we haven't had competitions for so long." So far, he could only simulate such a situation in training and only pretend that every single shot counts.

He will only see this point more clearly in mid-March, when the first national qualification for the European Championship takes place.
