The FIFA Ethics Committee has announced that Franz Beckenbauer and former German Football Association officials will not be prosecuted for corruption allegations related to the 2006 World Cup in Germany due to her downfall over time.
Sky News quoted the committee as saying in a statement last night: "The Judicial Chamber of the Independent Ethics Committee has ruled that the conduct of Franz Beckenbauer, Theo Zfantsiger and Horst Rudolf Schmidt in connection with the 2006 World Cup due to the passage of time shall not be prosecuted."
The statement indicated that FIFA's internal judiciary decided that the time limit expired in 2012 for the former football star in Kennebauer and in 2015 for the couple Zvansiger and Schmidt.
In March 2016, FIFA's Ethics Committee opened formal proceedings against Beckenbauer and others over their role in awarding the 2006 World Cup rights to Germany, amid allegations of bribes.
Beckenbauer, head of Germany's bid to host the 2006 World Cup, was under investigation by the Swiss judiciary for buying votes to obtain the rights to host the World Cup, but he denied this claim.
