HSG Würm-Mitte will also compete in the third division in the coming season.

Until then, the handball players have to find a replacement for trainer Stefanie Mittasch.

Würmtal - Now the women I of the HSG Würm-Mitte have finally been certain: the Würmtal wildcats will also play in the third-highest German handball division in the coming season.

On Wednesday evening, the German Handball Federation (DHB) informed the third division clubs in a video conference that - as already suspected - there would be no relegated teams in the current season.

HSG Würm-Mitte: Saved in the third division, but trainer Mittasch leaves

However, there is still no certainty about who will train Würm-Mitte in the future.

Head coach Stefanie Mittasch is no longer in office, as confirmed by HSG board member Benedikt Waterloo.

The trainer from Pegnitz in Upper Franconia, who also looked after the B-Juniors in the Würmtal, returned to her home country for professional reasons.

Waterloo: “Now we have to look for a new coach again.

But we don't have anyone yet. "

Mittasch took over from long-time head coach Claus Lohmann in 2019.

In their first 2019/20 season, the Wildcats had an almost perfect record of 19 wins and one draw in the Bavarian League until the end of the season due to corona.

Thanks to the quotient regulation, the intended return to the 3rd League South succeeded straight away.

The newcomer started the 2020/21 season with three defeats before the round was interrupted in November 2020.

DHB has not yet officially ended the season in the 3rd League South

Since then, there has been uncertainty about a possible continuation of the season, possible start dates have been postponed further and further.

Now there is at least planning security for the coming season.

But the DHB has not yet officially decided to end the season.

“If possible, promoters to the second division for women and men should be identified from the interested clubs.

In addition, other clubs are to receive a game offer, ”says Benjamin Chatton, who is responsible for game operations on the DHB board.

The question of promotion has to be clarified mainly due to the permeability to the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga, whose game operations are not paused.

Also promoted to the third division and a further increase in the number of participants are possible;

but probably not from Bavaria, as the Bavarian Handball Association (BHV) has already declared the season over.

Three options for the HSG Würm-Mitte until the new 2021/22 season

Third division clubs like HSG Würm-Mitte now have three options until the summer break: participation in the promotion round, participation in a "friendly game" or a complete waiver of regular play and full concentration on the coming season.

The additional rounds should take place in the period after Easter until the end of June and be accompanied by a test concept.

Tobias Beckmann, Wildcats co-trainer, welcomes the decisions in principle: “Viewed nationwide, this is a fair solution for everyone.” Participation in the promotion round is unrealistic for the HSG, if only because of the lack of licensing documents.

Half of the Würmtaler wildcats do not want or cannot train with contact

In principle, however, participation in the “friendly round” is conceivable.

However, this depends, among other things, on the amount of the test costs that the clubs themselves have to bear.

In addition, a large part of the management would have to give approval for training with physical contact or receive approval from employers.

"At the moment, half of the players cannot or do not want to train with physical contact," reports Beckmann.

It is also still unclear who should look after the team in these games.

Ideally, of course, the coach for the coming season.
