What an evening!
The TuS handball players, consisting of pure amateur athletes, celebrated a sensational 32:25 (17:12) success against old master Gummersbach.
Fürstenfeldbruck
- The Panthers not only beat their opponent easily, they missed him a lesson - and that, although the Bruckers had to do without playmaker Falk Kolodziej for almost the entire second half.
It was the moment of shock in the game when Kolodziej remained lying down relatively at the beginning of the second round after a collision and then limped off the field.
"Abdominal muscle strain" was the diagnosis of trainer Martin Wild.
The playmaker could only hit the field for seven-meter throws.
Falk Kolodziej delivers an outstanding game - then he has to go down injured
By then Kolodziej had delivered a sensational game.
At the end of the day, he had ten goals and four assists in his statistics.
Who knows how many times "Kolo" would have scored if he had been able to play through completely.
But anyone who thought that the failure of the thinker and guide would lead to a break in the Brucker game was mistaken.
After this game it is actually forbidden to single out individual actors.
The Panther collective acted too vigorously. "We were biting, annoyed Gummersbach, played an incredible defense and showed incredible morals," Wild practiced in deserved superlatives.
It became apparent relatively quickly that the game would get a completely different stamp than the first leg that was lost at 25:40.
If the Panthers had let themselves be rolled over in Gummersbach, they balanced the initial phase this time - at least until 7: 7.
After that, the fans rubbed against the screens and the brave strollers who watched the ghost game through the hall windows, probably amazed.
Wild trusts his gut feeling for the goalkeeper position
The Panthers took command and pulled away until the break at 17:12.
And despite the team performance, there is one more name to highlight in the end: Stefan Hanemann.
Basically, Wild had no reason to change goalkeepers.
Michael Luderschmid had played impressively well in the previous games despite his six defeats in a row.
Nevertheless, Wild sent Hanemann between the posts against Gummersbach.
One reason was that Erik Wudtke was in the hall with Wild.
The assistant coach of the German national team knows Hanemann from his time as a youth national coach.
"I was beginning to think that his presence could tease a few percent more out of Stefan," said Wild.
The rest was gut feeling.
After the 60 minutes, Hanemann had eleven saves, including three seven meters held directly.
With another penalty, his opponent was so unnerved that he threw next to the goal.
And because the Panthers also acted as one piece, the victory against the increasingly frustrated Gummersbachers was never in danger.
Wild: "We deserved to win 100 percent."
