Themselves to blame

The SC Riessersee can attribute this defeat to itself.

At EV Lindau, the SCR lost 5: 6, although they were the better team for long stretches.

Lindau -

It has always been like this, it is like that, and it will always stay that way.

In ice hockey, the goals decide.

It doesn't help how many shots on goal a team makes, how much target they own, how much more control they have, how often they are outnumbered.

None of this is of any use if the opponent scores more goals.

SC Riessersee had to recognize that once again in the ice hockey Oberliga Süd.

On Friday evening, the SCR was to blame for the 5-6 defeat at the EV Lindau Islanders.

Riessersee does not like fore checking

“Not pretty, but successful.” That was the title of the daily newspaper on January 20, 2021.

One day after the 5: 2 success of Garmisch-Partenkirchner in Lindau.

In the second meeting it was exactly the other way around.

The SCR was the significantly better team, but returned home empty-handed.

After the first eleven minutes that would have been perfectly fine.

The guests did not come into play.

The Islanders bought them with aggressive fore checking and led 2-0.

But the traditional club from Garmisch-Partenkirchen dominated the remaining 49 minutes.

Florian Vollmer untied the starting knot with the connection goal after a strong backhand pass from Nick Endreß.

After the 1: 5, the race to catch up begins

From then on, the guests had the reins in their hands.

But the problem with the SCR was already apparent in this phase: It simply doesn't make enough of its chances, especially in power play.

Ron Chyzowski's team acted in the majority eight times that evening, not a single goal was recorded.

The Lindauer acted significantly better.

At the beginning of the second period, Vollmer took the first step on the ice after his penalty time, when the hosts made it 3: 1.

That didn't change anything in the game.

The SCR dominant, Lindau successful - 4: 1 in the 28th, 5: 1 in the 30th minute.

The guests' heads were hanging, but they weren't thinking of giving up.

However, they started their race to catch up.

Anton Radu scored to 2: 5, Moritz Miguez to 3: 5, Simon Mayr to 4: 5.

Even after the Islanders went 6: 4, Vollmer and Co. didn’t open up.

With six minutes to go, Robin Soudek scored the 5-6 from the guests' point of view.

Even a double majority is not enough

And then everything went well for the Garmisch-Partenkirchner.

The momentum was on their side, as were the referees in one scene.

They sent a Lindauer to the penalty bench and spared an SCR player.

In this phase that meant for the guests: 27 seconds twice the number.

But again no goal succeeded.

To make matters worse, Soudek also received a punishment.

So it remained at the bitter and unnecessary 5: 6 for Riessersee.

The SCR beat itself that evening, didn't use its chances consistently and kept handing out gifts that Lindau loved to convert into goals.

The shooting statistics of 44:29 didn't help either.
