Portugal's national handball goalkeeper Alfredo Quintana died of complications from his heart attack at the age of 32.

His club FC Porto announced on Friday via Twitter.

"Our dearest Alfredo Quintana passed away today," said the tweet in which the native Cuban was described as a "true dragon" based on the club's nickname.

The short message ended with the words: "May you rest in peace."

The FC Porto keeper suffered the heart attack on Monday during training and was immediately taken to a hospital for medical care.

With the Portuguese team he last came tenth at the World Cup in Egypt.

There were condolences from all over the handball world.

"Our deepest sympathy goes to his family and loved ones, we wish you a lot of strength," tweeted the SG Flensburg-Handewitt.
