Before the game against Frankfurt, Werder Bremen seemed at a crossroads. Instead of the relegation battle, it's now the wonderfully boring mid-table. Frankfurt fell victim to a Bayern curse.

Happy apart:

Bremen met four times on Friday evening in the Frankfurter Tor (28th minute, 47th, 62nd, 69th).

Four times afterwards they looked expectantly in the direction of the referee Robert Hartmann, who was in radio contact with the video department in Cologne.

Each time the Bremen Frankfurts had actually only been able to overcome such a strong defense by lurking at the level of the offside line.

After a few minutes of consultation, Hartmann pointed twice towards the center circle.

That was enough for the surprise success.

The result:

Werder Bremen won 2-1 (0-1) against Eintracht Frankfurt, the first in more than a month.

Theodor Gebre Selassie (47th) and Josh Sargent (62nd) were the Bremen scorers who were not whistled back.

André Silva brought Eintracht into the lead (9th).

The curse of surprise:

Frankfurt looked flat and lacking in ideas, especially towards the end of the game, the defeat was not due to luck.

That should have surprised the majority of football fans after five wins, including the last one over Bayern.

Where: Actually, it corresponds to a pattern.

The four teams that last won against Bayern - Gladbach, Hoffenheim, again Gladbach and now Frankfurt - could not win their next game.

A similar negative series as after the last Frankfurt win against Bayern in November 2019 is not desired for Eintracht, after the 5-1 success they lost seven games in a row.

First half:

Frankfurt was considered the Bundesliga team of the hour before the game, and coach Adi Hütter's team began accordingly: Amin Younes and Filip Kostic took a corner briefly, André Silva headed the delayed cross into the far corner.

Werder struggled, especially in the build-up game against Frankfurt, who started off with a strong start.

It got better with interspersed long balls, Milot Rashica hit the bar after one of those (34th).

Fights on and off the pitch:

the teams fought heated duels, and not just on the pitch.

At the press conference, Frankfurt trainer Adi Hütter said that he had tried for 75 minutes to stand calmly and confidently on the sidelines, but “at some point you just burst your neck.

All around I didn't like the level «.

Hütter saw yellow.

Werder coach Florian Kohfeldt replied that Bremen had “seen very relaxed home games here recently.

Today came unity.

Eintracht might have to ask itself why it is always like that with them. "And he added:" Eintracht is playing an outstanding season.

Then you have to be able to lose with decency. "

Second half:

Bremen's upward trend from the first half continued.

And suddenly Rashica shone again, who is still without a goal this season, but now played big.

After a dribble, he made room 25 meters in front of the opposing goal and sent Theodor Gebre Selassie, who started on the right.

The ball was placed by Kostic with an unfortunate tackle on the right in the penalty area, Gebre Selassie hit the far corner.

Almost exactly a quarter of an hour later, Sargent met from a similar position after a similarly enchanting presentation by Maximilian Eggestein.

And now?

First take a deep breath.

After three games without a win in a row, there was a risk of serious relegation.

Due to the success over Eintracht, Bremen has eight points ahead of 16th place and should be comfortable in the tabular no man's land.

For many Werder fans this is probably a wonderful idea after a horror season like the last one.

Despite the defeat, Frankfurt remains on course for the Champions League ranks.

Anyone who wins everything over the course of weeks can cope with a setback like this.
