Gladbach's next bankruptcy: last chance

2021-02-27T22:01:25.221Z

Gladbach's coach Marco Rose is missing a sense of achievement after his announced move to BVB. It looked like a win in Leipzig at the break. The hosts turned the game - because they remained true to themselves.

Digital Detox:

Before the game, Gladbach's trainer Marco Rose said that he was not aware of anything around him at the moment - because he didn't want it and it wasn't good for him either.

After the third defeat in a row, Rose's media consumption will probably be limited in the coming days.

Next Tuesday, Borussia Dortmund, the designated new club of the coach, comes to the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup in Gladbach.

Then there is also Leverkusen in the league, which currently has four points more than Gladbach in one game less in sixth place in the Europa League.

If both games are lost, it could be a very turbulent season for Gladbach's coach.

The result:

After taking the lead 2-0, Gladbach lost 3-2 in Leipzig.

It is the fifth game without a win, Gladbach only got five points from the six games in the second half of the season.

First half:

When a team seems to be stuck in a negative spiral, it sometimes takes a game in which a lot is going on for their own team to possibly reverse the trend.

After the first 45 minutes in Leipzig, it seemed to be such a game for Gladbach.

Gladbach got a penalty early on due to an unnecessary foul by Dayot Upamecano (more on that later), which was then shot weakly, but still scored (6th minute).

In the second own chance to score, one player (Breel Embolo) heads the ball on the shoulder of another (Marcus Thuram), the ball went into the goal (19th).

Only that Hofmann did not score in the third Gladbach chance (39th) did not fit into the picture.

Unfortunately, from Gladbach's point of view, after a 15-minute break, there was another 51 minutes of playing time including injury time.

Angeliño trouble?

Due to muscular problems, Leipzig's Angeliño was canceled for a short time.

At least that's how the people of Leipzig announced it.

The Spaniard himself saw it differently.

The winger wrote on Twitter that he was fit.

A little later he deleted the tweet.

what happened there?

Angeliño resolution: It

was reported on Sky

television

that Leipzig's press spokesman had let it be known upon request that Angeliño himself did not want to believe the attending doctor that he was injured.

Coach Julian Nagelsmann said after the game: “I also have to say that I really like him for such actions because he just always wants to play.

He's so emotional.

It annoys him that he has to skip a game. "It is of course also clear that the tweet" may not be the cleverest. "

Second half:

Leipzig had more possession of the ball, shots on goal and won duels in the first round, but was 2-0 down.

As well as the first half went well for Gladbach, it was just as unhappy for Leipzig.

Nevertheless, they constricted the Gladbachers further back.

Alexander Sörloth's first goal was legitimately not given due to handball (51).

With Christopher Nkunku (57th) and Yussuf Poulsen (66th) the hits were regular.

Just like with Sörloth's second goal - despite a slight nudge against opponent Valentino Lazaro.

In the fourth minute of stoppage time, the Norwegian headed for a deserved victory.

RB didn’t care that Forsberg’s 4: 2 didn’t count a minute later because of offside.

The two faces of Dayot Upamecano:

Leipzig's central defender should be symbolic of the

roller coaster

of emotions on both sides.

Upamecano first acted cocky and unhappy when he played in the Bundesliga after his move to Bayern became known, then he played a major role in ensuring that his team still won.

But first things first: After a few minutes he caused the penalty for a foul to 0: 1 through exaggerated physical effort.

In the second goal, Upamecano was the opponent of the goalscorer Thuram.

After the break, the Frenchman was involved in the first two goals again.

Before the 1: 2 he took the ball from Thuram, the attack to equalize he initiated with a through pass.

More than a week of excitement:

after two Bayern games without a win, Leipzig suddenly became a title contender last weekend, only two points behind the permanent champions.

After 45 minutes in Leipzig it looked like it would be five points again after the 23rd matchday.

But thanks to the first Bundesliga win after a 2-0 deficit, Leipzig still has the chance to become champions on its own.

The goal will now be to preserve this starting position at least until April 3rd.

Then FC Bayern will come to Saxony.
