The Polish ski jumper Piotr Zyla is the new world champion on the normal hill.
At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf, Zyla jumped to the top with 105 and 102.5 meters.
Karl Geiger won the silver medal in his hometown with 103.5 and 102 meters.
Bronze went to Anze Lanisek from Slovenia with 102.5 and 101 meters.
Zyla and Geiger were outsiders in the first decision of the ski jumpers in Oberstdorf.
They benefited from the fact that the big favorites on the smaller hill fell short of expectations, especially in the first round.
World Cup leader Halvor Egner Granerud came in fourth after only 99 meters in the first round with a strong second jump of 103 meters.
Markus Eisenbichler, on the other hand, botched both jumps with 98.5 and 95.5 meters and was only 17th. The Polish tour winner Kamil Stoch only came in 22nd with 96 and 95.5 meters.
