OUR TOPS

Mathieu Faivre on his cloud

Rating: 9/10

Back in 2017. Second in the Giant's World Cup at 25, Mathieu Faivre had a golden future ahead of him.

But surprisingly, it was slowly but surely towards a siding that he was heading, unable to confirm the beautiful promises he had made.

Until two weeks ago.

And suddenly, the resurrection.

Two giant and parallel world champion titles in Cortina d'Ampezzo acted as a tremendous trigger and this weekend, in Bansko, Faivre achieved an almost full box with a victory and a 2nd place, with each time the best time of the first heat.

A return to the foreground too late to pretend to play the giant's crystal globe.

But what to dream of again with a golden future at… 29 years old.

Renaud Lavillenie still flies

Rating: 8/10

At 34, Renaud Lavillenie seemed to be heading slowly towards the end of a great summer career.

Since his painful failure at the Olympic Games in Rio where, booed by the Carioca public, he had to be content with the silver medal, the pole vaulter could no longer cross the mythical 6-meter bar, leaving the Swede Armand Duplantis the front of the stage as well as the world record.

But obviously, the Frenchman has found a second wind.

On January 31, in Tourcoing, he thus erased 6.02m.

And this weekend, at his home in Clermont-Ferrand, he confirmed by flying over 6.06m.

Quite simply the third best jump of his career and his best performance since his world record in 2014. A few months from Tokyo, that changes everything.

Cyril Gane continues his ascent

Rating: 7/10

Remember this name: Cyril Gane.

At 30, the Frenchman perfectly mastered Jairzinho Rozenstruik on the night of Saturday to Sunday to win by unanimous decision of the jury by winning each of the five rounds in his first main event in UFC, the prestigious American martial arts league. mixed (MMA).

With his fighting intelligence, the Vendéen was able to show patience and once again show his versatility.

Offensive, very mobile on his legs, Gane skilfully alternated between boxing, fighting against the grid and attempts to take his opponent to the ground.

The Vendée heavyweight (1.96m, 111kg) has so far displayed a flawless course with 8 victories, including 4 now in UFC, for 0 defeats, since his start of his career in MMA in 2018. Several times French champion of Muay Thai, Gane had previously cut his teeth by beating the big names in the discipline.

He then took the plunge by joining the MMA Factory in Paris where he is coached by a middleweight: Fernand Lopez.

And his beautiful journey seems to have only just begun.

Alexia Barrier, Vendée Globe finisher

Rating: 6/10

Finisher, the term is used for runners who manage to finish a marathon on both (exhausted) legs.

And it suits Alexia Barrier perfectly, who succeeded this Sunday in completing her marathon around the world after 111 days at sea and above all a serious back injury after a fall in the final sprint.

More fear than harm (no fracture) for the southern rookie of the monohull TSE-4myplanet (the oldest in the fleet), which ranks 24th and penultimate in this legendary 9th edition.

Only one sailor is still at sea and racing.

A Finnish airline pilot.

Arrival next weekend ...

OUR FLOPS

Lucas Paqueta leads OL

Score 4/10

An evening in hell for the Brazilian from OL.

A penalty caused, even if opinions differ as to the use of the VAR, and a second yellow card on a sole for Dimitri Payet in the second half.

Attractive and excellent since his arrival in Lyon, the 23-year-old midfielder, with a silky left foot, did not deliver a copy to meet the expectations placed on him on the lawn of the Vélodrome (1-1).

Lucas Paqueta ended this month of February less well than he had started.

Author of 3 goals, the Brazilian was one of the most successful at OL in recent times.

Still decisive in Marseille

, with a center for scorer Toko-Ekambi, he left to continue his momentum.

Missed.

Sébastien Ogier, fatal wall of snow

Note: 3/10

Even the best pilots can sometimes make a mistake.

Sébastien Ogier was no exception to the rule on Saturday during the Arctic rally.

The reigning world champion got off the road at the very end of the day.

200 meters from the finish of the last special of the day, he finished his race in a wall of snow.

After winning the 8th Monte-Carlo Rally of his career a month ago, Ogier finished more than 10 minutes behind Ott Tänak.

He is now in third place in the world championship standings, tied on points with his teammate Elfyn Evans (31 points) since even the power stage will not have allowed him to win more than a tiny point.

"It's a weekend to forget," reacted the French driver, who had already suffered from his position as an opener on the snow-covered Finnish roads on Friday.

"I couldn't do more than that, it's like that, until the next one."

Which will take place from April 22 to 25 in Croatia.

The wait will be long before bouncing back.

Lille may regret it

Note: 3/10

Nightmarish week for the LOSC.

Eliminated in the Europa League by Ajax Amsterdam, the Northerners dropped two points after their draw against Strasbourg (1-1) on Sunday at home.

A hitch that could be expensive in the race for the Ligue 1 title and which does not at all to Christophe Galtier.

“You have to be happy with the point you take because it's a miracle.

We were both soft and scholar in the game, with a big lack of character and determination.

That's what I remember from this match.

I was disappointed by some of my players, ”said the technician at the end of the match.

Is it a simple downturn or the beginning of the end?

During the next two days, Lille will host Marseille before moving to Monaco… We will see (much) more clearly.
