"We want to thank Lloyd for his work and commitment, not just for the club but for the City of Atlanta," said General Manager Travis Schlenk. "He and his wife are great people who have made a positive impression on the city. By this change we will be able to succeed in the remaining half of the season. "
Pierce was appointed to the position in May 2018 after serving as Brett Brown's assistant.
The Hawks have been in the construction process for the past two years, but into the current season they have arrived with higher expectations.
Pierce himself said last March that Atalanta should aim for the playoffs this season.
Atlanta did improve this season compared to last season (20:14 vs. 27: 7), but still not as expected of it.
