The ice hockey player from Peißenberg seized the opportunity to become a professional player.

Establishing yourself in the DEL is not easy, however.

Peiting / Peißenberg - Fabian Dietz scored a whopping 17 goals in the 2017/18 league season - and that at just 18 years of age.

So it's no wonder that higher-class clubs became aware of the EC Peiting striker.

In 2018, the Peißenberger, who learned to play ice hockey at TSV and already moved to Peiting for the 2012/13 season at the age of 13, joined the Lausitzer Füchsen in the DEL2.

Only one year later he was allowed to slip on the jersey of the Eisbären Berlin in the top German division, the DEL.

“The change was enormous,” Dietz remembers the first time in Berlin, for which he ultimately played 42 games.

"The season wasn't easy," admits Dietz.

Mostly used in the fourth row, its Ice Age remained manageable.

As a result, the point yield also remained expandable.

He scored his only goal against Krefeld on October 11, 2019.

He also made a total of two grants.

Fabian Dietz has massively increased his training schedule

For his second year with the polar bears, Dietz had big plans.

His training schedule last summer in his native Peißenberg was enormous.

“I was as fit as never before,” reports the now 22-year-old.

However, health problems in autumn threw him back and prevented the Berliners from taking off.

“The competition in the team is very strong.

It's hard to fight for a place, ”admits Dietz, who therefore again ran into the DEL2 with a license to support the Lausitzer Füchse.

In 19 games, the Peißenberger scored six goals and four assists for the team from Weißwasser.

In the plus-minus statistics, Dietz is the best player on his team (+8).

But that doesn't change the fact that things are not going according to plan for the Lusatians.

The team is twelfth in the table at the moment, but it looks rather bad with participation in the play-offs.

So far ten missions in the current DEL season

The receipt for this was last served to head coach Corey Neilson, who had to vacate his chair.

"This is a pity.

I got on very well with him personally.

He gave me a lot of trust, ”said Dietz.

Chris Straube, who was previously assistant coach, has now taken over the helm.

After there are currently many injuries among the Berliners, Dietz was ordered back to the capital club.

In total, he now has ten DEL games this season.

On Friday Dietz was also involved in the 3-5 defeat in Bremerhaven.

How it will go for the 22-year-old in the coming season is still in the stars, because his contract in Berlin is expiring.

“That will probably not be decided until the summer,” speculates Dietz.

The only thing that is certain is that he will be back in Peißenberg during this time.

Visits home have become rare: During this season he only spent the Christmas days with his family.
