The home defeat against Nice was one too many for Julien Stephan.
The latter is no longer the coach of Stade Rennais.
This weekend, the 40-year-old coach offered his resignation to its leaders, who accepted it.
A new technician will be on the Breton bench this Wednesday for the match of the 28th day against Olympique Lyonnais.
Arrived in December 2018 to replace Sabri Lamouchi, Julien Stéphan therefore decided to leave, unable to stop the very bad series of his team which is in great difficulty at the beginning of the year 2021 with only one match won, all competitions combined. (success 1-2 in Brest on January 17).
The Breton formation, beaten at home last Friday by Nice (1-2), remains on a series of 7 unsuccessful matches (2 draws and 5 defeats) and has just chained 4 setbacks in all competitions.
Despite this empty passage, the son of Guy Stéphan, Didier Deschamps' assistant with the Blues, had a great success for his first position with the pros.
He notably allowed Stade Rennais to win their 3rd Coupe de France (48 years after the last) by defeating PSG in the 2019 final on penalties (2-2 ap).
Last year, the coach led his team (3rd in L1) to a first qualification in the Champions League while also participating in the emergence of Eduardo Camavinga, the young international midfielder (3 caps).
But his 3rd season with the pro team is proving more difficult with a last place in his group in C1 (a draw and 5 defeats) and a current lackluster 9th place.
A crisis of results which therefore led to his resignation this weekend.
