PSV Eindhoven's 1: 1 Summary with Ajax (Sport 1)

Eran Zehavi is also beginning to receive recognition in the Dutch media, which treated him with suspicion in his first months at PSV Eindhoven.

After Eindhoven's 1-1 draw with Ajax last night (Sunday) in which Zehavi scored an excellent goal with a free kick, the Israeli scorer received high scores at all local sites, was chosen as the man of the match and also received praise from commentators who doubted him until recently.

One of them is the legendary former pioneer Pierre Van Hoydonck, who now serves as a commentator on local television.

Van Hoydonck, who claimed earlier this season that Daniel Mullen should be PSV's senior striker, last night described Zahavi as a "free kick expert".

"It was a great free kick by Zahavi. I really liked watching it. He kicked a fast and strong ball, and that's what made the difference. Against Olympiacos he also kicked a strong ball, which is very important when you kick a free kick," he said.

"The Ajax goalkeeper had nothing to do to stop it. All he had left to do was clap his hands and say, 'Great kick.'"

At the same time, Van Hoydonk claims that Zahavi's goal was scored even with a little help from Ajax players, who did not organize the wall correctly.

"Ajax have broken one of the most basic rules in such situations - if the opposing team puts players in front of the wall, always put your tallest player behind, to reduce the chance that the kick will pass over the wall at this point. In the case of Ajax, Sebastian Haller should have been placed there. "It did not happen, and it cost them their absorption."

In the Netherlands, they responded to Zehavi's and PSV's claims that Lisandro Martinez deliberately stepped on the Israeli striker and had to receive a red card.

Former Dutch judge Dick van Agmund has argued that these allegations are "unfounded".

"The maximum penalty in such a case is a yellow card. The stepping was neither intentional nor particularly strong. PSV's claims are unfounded," he said.

But not everyone agreed with the judge's ruling.

Former player Jan van Halst said ignoring Martinez's foul on Zahavi "was the moment that changed the game."

"It's a shame, I do not understand this decision. You can see in the replay that it was really treading," he said in a panel of commentators on Dutch television to summarize the game, which also included Marco van Basten who presented the opposite position, arguing that a red card should not have been given.

"To say it's red is nonsense," Van Basten said.

"No red is given in a situation like this. Zahavi should not have touched the ball at all. In fact, he is the one who initiated the contact. PSV's claims are unfounded."
