Former player and coach Zeltko Crancher passed away today (Monday), at the age of only 64.

Cranjar, who played for the Croatian national team and later served as its coach, recently suffered a serious illness.

His son is former player Nico Cranchar, who played between Hire at Portsmouth, Tottenham and Dynamo Kyiv, and has worn the Croatia national team uniform 81 times.



Kranjar Sr. played as a striker for Dynamo Zagreb and won the championship and two trophies with them before moving to Rapid Vienna.

The Austrian team was a huge success under coach Otto Barrich.

He scored 132 goals in 269 games in all competitions and swung with her every possible local title, reaching more than 250 career conquests.

Cranjar also made 11 appearances and 3 goals for the Yugoslavian national team before disbanding and in October 1990 became the first ever captain of the Croatian national team, in which he managed to appear twice before retiring.

Crancher has coached a long line of teams, first in Austria and Croatia and later in the Persian Gulf.

In the years 2004-2006 he stood on the lines of the Croatian national team, but was fired after the World Cup in Germany, which he and his players finished already after the home stage.

Between February 2010 and September 2011 he coached the Montenegro national team.
