Health crisis of the XV of France: what to expect from the internal investigation report?

By requesting a precise report on what happened in Marcoussis, Roxana Maracineanu, the Minister for Sports, placed the Federa

This is a question that concerns all observers of the XV of France.

What should we expect from the internal investigation report that the French Rugby Federation (FFR) must send to the Ministry of Sports on Tuesday?

Perhaps explanations to understand how the health bubble, supposed to protect the French players and the staff, was able to turn into a sieve, causing a cluster with 17 positive cases.

On the other hand, it is useless a priori to plan on exemplary sanctions.

On February 2, the Ministry of Sports, after the validation of a health protocol by the interministerial crisis center (CIC), authorized the French team to participate in the Six Nations Tournament.

It is above all a moral agreement between the CIC, the ministry and the FFR (which undertakes to apply the protocol to the letter) and no sanction is foreseen for those who break the rules.

Hence the request for an internal report and not the triggering of an administrative investigation, which would have been carried out by the General Inspectorate.

For a while, Roxana Maracineanu, guarantor to the government of the respect of the rules by the sportsmen, brandished the threat of a withdrawal of the authorization to participate in the Tournament.

We will not get to this extreme.

"It is not for me to give sanctions, but the FFR must position itself", pointed out the minister.

By raising the tone, it has above all placed the FFR in front of its responsibilities, especially since, for a few days, Bernard Laporte has more tendency to get his feet in the carpet than to provide clear explanations.

Players enjoying a waffle in a crowded street in Rome, a coach who comes out of the frame to go see his son play ... nothing seems to shock Bernard Laporte, who tells without batting an eyelid to have himself walked in the Italian capital, so that he was not supposed to leave the bubble.

Will the Federation dare to take sanctions?

To believe that, unlike other leaders of French sport, the president of the FFR is ignorant of the very concept of "health bubble".

Barring a miracle, the internal report will not provide answers to the questions, especially as the FFR has in recent days put forward smoky explanations, finding various ideal culprits: the Blues of rugby sevens came to train with players of the XV , then the anonymous physical trainer who suddenly became “patient zero”.

How far will the FFR go in terms of transparency?

Will she dare to take sanctions if faults are found?

Sunday in the program Stade 2, Bernard Laporte did not rule out the possibility of sanctions.

While renewing his support for coach Fabien Galthié - "I learned that we were the third nation in the world when we were ninth when I arrived" - and to Serge Simon, his Covid manager, who "applies what we are told to do ”.

The ministry will take note of the report on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Then, a meeting between the parties will be organized within a few days to take stock.
