Almost 100 days before the European Championship kick-off this summer, Great Britain offered to host further games.
In a good nine years, football will then be brought "home" in its entirety for the World Cup, as British Prime Minister Boris Johnson wrote on Twitter on Tuesday.
The four associations of the kingdom are preparing, together with Ireland, an application for the 2030 tournament, which is to be awarded in 2024.
The World Cup bonus would be "a wonderful thing for the whole country," said Johnson.
In an interview with the newspaper »The Sun«, the 56-year-old said in a somewhat claused manner that England would be available as a helper in an emergency for the EM (June 11 to July 11), which was postponed due to the corona pandemic.
»We are the hosts of the euro.
We have semifinals and the finals, ”Johnson said.
Should there be games that need a new host, "we are certainly ready to do so".
UEFA decision on EM expected for early April
So far, according to official statements, the European Football Union assumes that the EM can take place as planned in twelve countries, including Munich.
In London, as in Glasgow, three group games and a round of 16 are to be played.
A final decision by Uefa, especially on possible spectators in the stadiums, is expected for the beginning of April.
So far, more than a third of adults in the UK have received a first corona vaccination.
With a view to applying for 2030, the football associations from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland reacted "delighted" to the government's support.
A feasibility study is still being worked on, said the English FA, before the official bidding process of the world association Fifa opens in 2022.
Portugal and Spain had already officially registered their interest.
China, among others, is considered a possible applicant, as is an association of several South American countries.
According to the "Sun", Finance Minister Rishi Sunak plans in the new budget, which will be presented this Wednesday, 2.8 million pounds (3.23 million euros) for the application, for the Women's European Championship 2022 in England is an additional 1.2 Million pounds earmarked.
"We want to see a lot of football in the years to come," Johnson said.
